i think the pay to play put a lot of people off of it.

i had it in my hands, along with my cash until the guy said "it's pay to play", and i ended up getting Oblivion... another bad choice.

Well, I played the beta version of it. I'm not really a fan of Final Fantasy. I did play FFVII on the PS1, but that's about it. It takes you about an hour to get used to FFXI. A major downside is no voice chat, unless you talk to them through private chat in the guide. I reckon it's a must-have for FF fanatics, but IMO, I hate these games that charge you a subscription fee. You're already paying ?40 a year for Xbox Live itself, so why should you pay another ?8 a month just for 1 game?

No, it has a subscription, just like Phantasy Star Universe. FFXI does come with 2 months free, though. You can probably pick it up for about ?20 on Play.com now.

if you want an online RPG, i strongly recommend Phantasy Star Universe. I hear a lot of people on PSU saying FF is so repetitive (so is PSU, but it offers more worlds, stages, bosses).

but thats only one side of the story right? how many people switch from PSU to FF, saying the same thing?

All depends if your a fan of anime (which im not), and online RPG's (which im not either), but PSU is just an old favorite, and i can't stop playing.

Its nothing like the previous FF games, It shouldn't have been called FF11, rather just FFonline. I guess its just a marketing thing based on the brand name.

The game from what I've seen on my friends pc who is addicted to it, is utter garbage and horribly slow paced.
