w1r3d
well i recently noticed that when im using firefox and a animated gif is displayed the cpu usage goes up anywhere from 40 to 100% usage compared to 1 to 10% when no animated gifs are displayed and this doesnt happen with internet explorer... any ideas how to fix this since i really prefer firefox? anymated gifs like the smilies on this website dont make the cpu go all the way up to 100% but for example this one by itself makes it go up to 60% and this one makes it go up to 100%..... any idea why this is happening? MediaSoldier
you should have posted this in the web browser discussion but anyway.. what extensions / themes have you got running that could be a problem, also try deleting your profile and make a new one. w1r3d
default theme with no extensions, what profile? my windows profile?
sweetsam
No, not your windows profile but Firefox profile. Right click on the firefox shortcut and select properties. In the target box add -profilemanager. Then click on the shortcut. You will get a dialog box wherein your profile is listed. If you haven't customized it will be default user. Highlight the same and delete it by clicking on the delete button and then create a new one by clicking on create profile. If the problem you are having is cuased by corruption in your profile this will fix it. Hope this helps.

IceDogg
Not a fix and don't know if you'd want to do this, but I have set my animations for gifs to off. In about:config find image.animation_mode right click modify and put none. I never had the 100 % usage problem but if this is what's truly causing it for you then that could help. I did it because I hate animated gifs.

Please go to Help > About and copy&paste the user agent string (starts with "Mozilla") 2) What graphics card and drivers are you using? 3) Does the same problem happen if you make a new firefox profile? There are bugs filed against firefox taking up lots of CPU/Memory for animated gifs. All I can say is that work to fix this is currently occuring on the firefox Trunk, and so should be included for Firefox 3.
