Question for Xbox360 owners

Recommended Posts

I'm thinking of purchasing a xbox360. I have a Nintendo wii, but I would like something that can play HD content as well. If I get the "core" system do I have to purchase any extra accessories (CABLES) to do 720p/1080i? This system will be mostly for HD-DVDs and streaming media. Should I just get the more expensive one?

You should get the Premium. You'll need the HDD to stream content anyways, and the Core doesn't come with HD cables, just composite.

get the premium its worth it. you would have to buy component cables to get HD if you bought the core. you would have no way to save games unless you got an expensive memory card... its just smart to splurge a bit more.

Remember though, that it's a normal DVD in the machine, so you won't be able to play HD DVD movies, you will need the external Xbox 360 DVD Player extension for that (which is only released a few places, and might be hard to get at the moment).

However, as the other guys points out, it's stupid to buy the Core system, as you get so much more with the premium, just the wireless controllers and the HDD is more than enough reason.

Besides, Gears of War in 1080 HD is just ownage :)

No you dont need mce. As for streaming divx im sure their is a way to do it without mce, their is transcode360 and other programs if you have mce, but im sure their are ones that you dont need it.

yup, no point in getting the core system, it was a distraction i think and just diluted sales potential.

as for streaming, i'm as clueless as you are!

yea the core is a waste of time that was created just so MS can go around saying they have cheap consoles when in fact for the core to be at all usable you have to spend another ?50/60 just to get it half way decent.

The lack of a hard disk prevents saving and access to most of the decent xbox live content. Not to mention the lack of component games resulting in a garbage picture on most modern TV's. The last gen wired controllers don't help either.

So ya:pp screw the core and get a premium, that comes with all the cables you need, except a VGA lead for upscaling DVD's. Of course it would be nice if MS released a HDMI lead tho >.>

VGA beats HDMI in my book coz i'm on the PC with the same screen shared among both platforms. this was my first hint that it was time to become a Sony defector....PS3 doesn't make it just as easy hooking up to a PC screen.
