360s are funny.

My brother bought an XBOX 360, 3 days ago.

He played Oblivion on it quite alot for 2 days.

We had the console vertical.

Tonight, the CD fell inside the console and we had to try and shake it out.

With a little bit of effort, we got the disc out. Shame the drive is now totally buggered and won't accept any disc.

It just makes a foul noise.

Now we have to return it. Nice one. 2 days of gaming = death.

I'm a sony switcher; I was impressed, but no more.

I like short sentences.

if you had any sense you wouldn't put the console vertical.

The only way that that'd be possible is for you flip the console upside down with a disc inside, and shake it around abit so it can get past the clip (theres little clips on the tray to keep the disc in the tray)

Great... I was going to place mine vertically as well. Is this really an issue or are we just bashing Xbox now?

There's nothing wrong with putting it vertical unless you put it in the open so that anyone can trip over it.

No.

I did NOT do anything to it.

It actually just made a massive screeching sound like a disc being completely mutilated and it hasnt worked since...

My brother bought it miles and miles away as well because we were visiting our grandparents for christmas, so we have to drive up there to replace it according to GAME (The shop we got it from). 3 Hour journey there and back.

:(

Believe me, the replacement one I get is STAYING horizontal... :|

I basically made this thread to see if this problem has happened to anyone else?

It probably is only me though, since technology seems to always screw up in my house.... :/

I suspect it's just Xbox bashing. I had my 360 vertical for about month after I first got it and haven't had a problem at all with it :) This guy is probably failing to mention they probably tried to move it with the disk still inside (which in the manual, warns you not too)

Well it wouldn't have done it by itself. The drive has little rails for the DVD. Only way for it to happen is if someone moved it.

I'm not trying to bash the 360, I was very impressed with it until this happened.

The console I got obviously had a mechanical fault.

Ya, the DVD drive is a unit unto itself, I don't believe it could fall into the console. The only thing it could have done is go jammed in the drive, but ya, it would have had to have been knocked or something. Not sure why you would need to put it vertical anyways... the disc could easily get ruined if the console is touched or bumped. Horizontal is the way to go, and the 360 is an amazing console, juts because you have one bad experience, you have learned now and it can be once again your best friend ;)

Hell yeah, I'm going to bolt the next one down horizontally onto the desk. :p

Have access to two consoles, since they were released last year, erm, year before last :p one vertical and one horizontal. Never had a problem with either (apart from the horizontal one but that was down to it being to close to heater so it, well, overheated :))

I've had mine vertical since 2 weeks after launch day, and have never had a single drive error. Maybe if you typed in compound or complex sentences, you wouldn't have these problems. :p

Wow guys... He's a nice guy. He even iterated his liking the console throughout the thread. Good going. Way to handle the comments hotdog963al. And, just for reference, I have heard of the issue you spoke of.

I'm going to get it replaced, buy gears of war and become an official 360 Fanboy, don't you worry ;)

I've already converted a couple of people to the "Tribe".
