That's what I'm doing.

It sucks that just earlier today I ordered a 20" Monitor for it :'(

I don't understand 'King Booker' :s

Anyway, surely a 20'' standard TV would be better than playing on a 17'' TFT/LCD monitor? (apart from resolution, of course)

technically it's better to have it vertical because the aeration is better, and the disc is also vertical in the drive. So ?? Well less pressure on your disc's surface (of course, it's odd but gravity push it down still) Remember the first xbox, they were scratching (caused no real problem thought but still) in a circular way when spinning in the drive. That what i'm talking about. Friction creates heats and can be lightly deformed when spinning at high speed. They can take it, but to a certain level. Finally, for the console itself, if the down/up side of the console is exposed to air, the heat is dispersed. And that's just common sense so wtf with that vertical not good thing .. lol

when i remove a game from the 360 that has played for hours, it's hot has hell, but had no problem, so maybe you passed the critical range.

Wow guys... He's a nice guy. He even iterated his liking the console throughout the thread. Good going. Way to handle the comments hotdog963al. And, just for reference, I have heard of the issue you spoke of.

Agreed.

Although it sounds weird (I personally never heard of this happening), he said it happened. Some of you guys just bash him for no reason :/. He handled it well though.

Sorry to hear this happen to you, but don't let it ruin your opinion of the 360.

ive had mine both vertical and horizontal for extended periods, and while nothing had happened while vertical, the same thing happened to mine while it was horizontal, though the disc stayed in the tray. it made a horrible screeching noise and the disc drive stopped working, and i had to have my 360 replaced.

Great... I was going to place mine vertically as well. Is this really an issue or are we just bashing Xbox now?

There is NO problem with it :).

I'd get an Xbox 360 if I didn't have a standard 20'' TV in my room :/

Use your monitor :).

My brother bought an XBOX 360, 3 days ago.

He played Oblivion on it quite alot for 2 days.

We had the console vertical.

Tonight, the CD fell inside the console and we had to try and shake it out.

With a little bit of effort, we got the disc out. Shame the drive is now totally buggered and won't accept any disc.

It just makes a foul noise.

Now we have to return it. Nice one. 2 days of gaming = death.

I'm a sony switcher; I was impressed, but no more.

I like short sentences.

honestly

i'm glad i won't cross your path in xbl.

that's too bad.

hmm chances are that the position of the console was changed when the disc was inside which shouldnt be done. To be honest this is the first i am hearing that the disc fell..lol

It never happend. As stated previously, the dvd drive has its own housing within the 360 itself. A disk "falling into" your 360 is theoretically and physically impossible. Maybe you had the new xbox with the nifty worm hole through the drive feature. I heard about that in popular mechanics.

I have a PC at work and for space sakes I had it stood on its side. The CD-rom drive had the little clip things to keep disks in place, and yet one still fell loose and made a god aweful noise (we all looked at pc and said like "Wow, that's gonna me broke now").

So disks CAN come loose, but it is probably very rare.

However in my case, all was well, the disk could be ejected after a little shaking, and was still usable.

^ I was just about to post roughly the same thing. I'm sure spinning at high speeds can cause slightly imperfectly made discs to vibrate alot and possibly come loose. It's happened to me before.

Why do user issues blame always fall on the hardware/software? It's possible that (OMG)It's your fault(/OMG)

I don't see why some of you people simply cannot accept that (OMG)It's could actually be the machine's fault(/OMG)

Anyway, I've managed to get a replacement unit. :)

You mean, let me understand this cause, ya know maybe it's me, I'm a little messed up maybe, but the 360 is funny how, I mean funny like the 360 is a clown, the 360 amuses you? The 360 makes you laugh, it's there to friggin' amuse you? What do you mean funny, funny how? How is it funny?
