Using a 360 on a LCD Monitor

Recommended Posts

This is for all the Xbox 360 owners out there using their Xbox on LCD monitors. I've got a few questions:

- How does the Xbox handle non 16:9 ratios. For example, if your LCD is 1440x900, is the picture scewed when set to 720p over the VGA cable?

- Does anyone have a 19-20" PC LCD Monitor that's 16:9 and not 16:10?

Well.. i'm on a 16:10 screen and i have NO problems what so ever with the 360!

Better then HD in my opinion! but thats only cause i'm up close and personal :p

VGA cable is worth the investment

I've currently got my 360 running off a Widescreen SDTV, now I won't be getting a HDTV anytime soon but I do have a 17" LCD (@ 1280 x 1024) that I could use the 360 on (when I'm not using my PC of cause :p) but I'm still hesitant to get the VGA cable mainly cause the LCD is not widescreen....is it really worth it?

Using a Viewsonic vx2025wm 20.1" wide screen. Looks amazing. With some tweaking I think I adjusted it so the minor distortion between 16:10 and 16:9 is virtually invisible. (wish my viewsonic scaled images).

I did notice the madcatz VGA cable was washed out for me, but the Microsoft vga cable looks great.

I highly recommend it over sdtv.

Currently I've got it running through my projector on to a 90" screen, but my projector isn't HD (it's 800x600) and as I want it in wide screen, it's only running at 480i. RGSPro, what res do you set the xbox too when you run it on your LCD, and what is it's native res.

same here, 1440X900 and i don't notice any stretching. like Vegetunks i'm also a PC gamer and so having both platforms in the same room, on the same desk...works superbly. highly recommeded.

720p at the moment but soon via VGA 1080p, Resolution of my monitor is 1920x1200. On 720p, Turning from FULL to NORMAL I can see the stretching but leaving it at full--you get used to it. As I said, I will soon be using 1080p so at the moment I cannot comment on that.

I currently have my Xbox360 hooked up to my viewsonic vp930 (none widescreen). It really isn't enjoyable to play on, although better than it would be on my TV.

It gives you like 12" high widescreen view, so it really does pay to have widescreen, also some games aren't compatible with non widescreen monitors (PGR3).

ATM I really don't enjoy playing Gears of War on it, although its a great game, I have a Samsung 26" HDTV coming today (if DHL stick to their word) so can't wait to play it on that, my brother has the same type of monitor only an older version and xbox games look amazing on it :)
