b0se
Howdy, I never had a problem with my 360, until I installed the R6 Vegas update. It now crashes quite often (screen freezes and goes garbled) in any game. Like I said, I had zero problems up until now (9+ months of flawless running). It's actually colder in my room too, so it's not the PSU overheating. I've also tried both horizontal/vertical standing, no difference. Anyone else get this problem with that update? LOC Veteran Posted January 1, 2007 Veteran Share Posted January 1, 2007 By update do you mean the original patch after the game's release, or a new patch? Because I haven't gotten any other patch yet. If you mean the original patch, no, no problems on my end.
Fabian-
have you tried clearing the HDD cache?
DarkGashX
I don't have an update ether, I just tested the game and mines fine (just got my first achievement on the game - 30GS :)).
neoadorable
not exactly the same problems here, but starting about the time of that patch my 360 began exhibiting issues such as errors on boot. not sure if it has anything to do with RS6, tho. Maximum Error
On Christmas day i got some THX logitech speakers and Rainbow Six Vagas...... I hooked everything up and sat down to play a nice game of R6; i turned on my 360, set my 5.1 up and jumped into the game, got as far as the menu screen n was asked to update R6. This is when everythin went horribley wrong. As soon as R6 loaded after the update the game froze and forced me to turn the 360 off but as soon as i turned on the 360 i got the three red lights of death... a coincidence? i dont think so........ i dont see how i can play gears of war for almost a 24hour period just days before then not even play R6 once without totaly wrecking my 360 without there being somesort of issue with the R6 update. I had had my 360 since launch but since phoning XBOX support i am currently (still... thanks to UPS) in the process of getting my 360 collected for repair. on a side note the microsoft support were great, answering my call at 9am on christmas day; its UPS that let them down "accidently" canceling my last pickup date and having to wait till 2moro for a new one.... i just hope that when everything gets returned to me its all going to work great. btw to those who have gone through the returns process before; how long does it take? do you get your own or some crappy refurbished one? Vice
Really sucks when game updates completely brick machines. That's the good thing about a PC if a game messes it up there is always something you can do to repair it without having to send it back to wherever you bought it. I feel sorry for you Maximum cause it's a great game when it works, but the PC version also does have some bugs for instance it always ends my gaming session before I want it to (crashes) and when it crashes I get so ****ed (obviously I was in the middle of a long mission) so I don't want to play it anymore. Anyway I hope your 360 comes back fully repaired.
neoadorable
maximum, you mean the red lights and that's it? the machine was a goner afterwards? nothing worked? i just hope you didn't freak too much and gave up. mine does the ring of death once in a while, sometimes it just goes straight to error 74 notices. i think it's nothing serious overall...or at least i hope. it's important not to overreact to these things: the 360 is a tightly packed piece of equipment and is likely uncomfortable in that setup. the odd mishap or two are inevitable. mattmatik
How can some people have the most severe problems like a bricked console but the majority of people are able to get the patch and have no issues afterward? It's not like the hardware setups are any different. Something has to be wrong here. I've had my 360 since June, with a manufactured date of May 2006. I've read of people with launch systems having no problems and I've read of people with manufactured systems as of October having to send it back. WTF? thenut
I remember when I downloaded the R6 Vegas demo a few days ago. I launched it and the little meter showing the load percentage stopped at around 10% and my 360 froze. The guide button didn't work, pressing once or holding. I waited a few minutes to make sure it wasn't a hiccup but no, it was frozen. I shut off my 360 with the actual power button, booted it back up with the controller, went to the dash and loaded R6 Vegas demo again and it worked fine. May just be a coincidence but I deleted the demo asap. It was my first 360 freeze and I didn't like the way it made me feel.
neoadorable
you're right of course, but the answer is simply an unstable design. hence, most of the time it works, sometimes it doesn't. more so than other designs. please remember the 360 and PS3 pack a lot of hardware into a small space. this will create problems every time. it's like building a shuttle PC with SLI'ed 7950GTX's or something. heat, static, influence...whatever you want to call it. or maybe it's something in the components themselves. i don't know. overall, i love my 360 but it is noticably less stable than the PS2 was (using that for example since it was my current console till Nov 2006). Rusty.Metal
I have been playing R6:V since it's release. I haven't had any problems with the patches; or with my xbox360 in general. The only time my xbox has problem's is when i smoke(mj) in my room. This produces freezing and unreadable disk. Mind you, my xbox is on my desk, so the smoke usually is very close to. neoadorable
rusty, your 360 must be working for MADD or something. i'm a smoker too (tobacco dammit, OK?) and it did occur to me that the 360 may be sensitive to that influence. however, i refuse to believe they'd be THAT dense to the point of not being able to engineer some particle tolerance. intrinity1
just beat my R6 and gotta admit that game was one of the baddest games i have ever played. It was so awesome. Story mode is pretty awesome coop wise, but terrorist hunt mode is better if you ask me. It's just a total blast having 2 3 or 4 players taking on anywhere from 15-50 terrorists (depends on the map) and just running and gunning together to nuke them all. Hehehe. Sounds to me that your 360 has given up the ghost - I don't think the R6 patch caused it as the 360 would only be 'looking' at that patch when R6 Vega's is in the 360. My original 360 died in pretty much the same way, it was fine for 6-7 months then started to crash frequently and suffered lockups at the dashboard. After a while of suffering from lockups the 3 red lights of death showed up along with an E71 error code.

ReAnimation
What did happens then? I had to phone Microsoft to arrange to send it back for repair. It took a grand total of 5 phone calls to get this sorted out. The first phone call was for them to confirm the 360 was dead, the other 4 phone calls were to sort out errors in the addressing. I kept getting routed through to foreign support desks and everyone I spoke to had issues understanding Town names, street names and UK postcodes. Even after spelling out the details phonetically I would wait for the UPS label to be emailed to me, only to find that they had still got it wrong. On the 5th phone call I did get routed through to a UK support desk and after I explained the situation that the other support desks kept getting my address wrong the guy there was very helpful and managed to correct my address details and arrange for UPS to collect the dead 360 from me without me needing to contact them first. While I was waiting to receive the 360 back I bought a new 360 from a high street retailer that cover's the 360's warranty themselves. I've currently had this 360 about 5-6 months - if it does develop any problems I can take it back to the store and they will give me a new one (I could not do this with the original 360 as it was purchased from an internet retailer that only covers goods for 28 Days after purchase). Around a week after UPS collecting the dead 360 I received a refurbished unit back which a few months later I managed to sell on, I recently heard from the guy that bought it from me that it died over the Christmas holiday, that?s another story though....
