d_fens
There are alot of IE only sites. Why do they discriminate against browsers that are capable of displaying w3c standards*? * The people that define what html, xhmtl, xml, and web languages in general. Debates on why FF versus IE aren't valid for this point! I don't agree with certain browsers not being allowed. Perhaps a warning saying it may not render correctly in this browser may be a more suitable message. But I've seen too many sites saying IE only. IE was not the first browser. It won't be the last. So why can't I use firefox, opera, safari or some non IE browser :(
halcyoncmdr
I find that a lot of sites that say IE-only are due to the fact that they rely on activex, which is not limited to IE only... Most sites that say they recommend IE usually have some way of still getting in... I agree however that there should be a warning, but under no circumstance should you be denied access simply because of your browser. If your browser does not supprt activex in its current state, then the site will fail, but it will not be their fault, they told you it might not work right. The site in the OP actually shows acreenshots of the site in IE and FF, so that at least shows you why, and it does allow Opera, which also displays it correctly. The author explains why he is not allowing IE, and easily shows why he is simply not allowing it at all instead of saying, "It might not work right" like many other sites, and then it still works anyway. Really, a world in which all browsers supported all standards, there would be only one browser; but we don't live in such a world. So we have to deal with it. We can't make the author change it most likely, so deal with it... complain, and then go on with your life; don't dwell on something that will not change. Aokromes
When a page asks me for firefox when using IE i use Opera.
halcyoncmdr
I do the exact same thing, and if for some reason it still doesn't work, I try changing the ua-string just to check before switching if I absolutely have to... which I never have had to do yet ;)
SteveUK
this topic makes me want to make a site of which on the enter splash screen forces you to download its own homebrew browser just to view it :p just to **** ppl off lol......not that i can craft web browsers personally :D
NightmarE D
OK he's pretty much throwing Firefox into the face of anyone coming to that site and bashing IE any chance he gets and this appears on his front page  "Hey everyone switch over to Firefox then try this little trick to crash your computer using Firefox" The guy does sound like a real ass. Throws Firefox in your face. Finds a little exploit that causes Firefox to crash your computer and turns around to still talk about how bad IE is. Also, he likes to ask people to donate money to him at the end of a lot of his posts. The guy sounds like a jerk. I shouldn't call him a guy actually. From the looks of most of his posts, he comes off as a little 15 year old. And for such a big Firefox user, you'd think he'd use the spell checker in it. hydrasp
Wow. You guys are way off topic. Try suggesting something for once and a while. Like the guy above said earlier, You need to disable Javascript. However, disabling Javascript may also disable other active content suchas flash and count down scripts. If you clicked the link with Firefox, your browser/computer would most likely crash.

zivan56
You guys might want to remove that link to the running of OSX on "another" platform, otherwise a mod is going to send you a nice warning about you encouraging piracy or something along those lines. halcyoncmdr
well you know zivan... they might not have noticed before now... :shiftyninja: But there is a disclaimer on the page itself that says the two conditions for it not to be considered illegal... so IMHO it should be ok... And yeah, that page didn't do anything lol

Let's just say there is more freedom on Apple's forum than here in regards to the topic ;)
abc@home
If a site uses css/js unsupported by IE, there is not much can be done. But if a site can work in IE but the site just want to trouble IE users, Proxomitron (web filtering application) or Maxthon 2.0 (IE based browser with proxomitron capability) can be use to easily circumvent. But then, why not simply ignore those sites? You barely suffer compared with FF users who ignore IE only sites.
TheNay
Im ****ed and disgusted at stupid sites that come up with a frontpage that says "You are using a old browser. Update to Firefox!". It ****ed me off because it should allow any user to enter the site with whatever browser they want.Anyway to bypass this and enter the site with IE7? Edit: Damn typos and spelling typos.. If a site restricts any certain browser from entering, the site isn't worth visiting. That's the way I look at it.

MrCobra
Personally, I don't like FF but if someone is paying for the server to host a site on then I see no problem with that person having specific requirements to use that site.
DanManIt
I say just avoid the site. They can't have anything that special or important on them if they only allow like 10% of the market to view their site.
