Vertical or horizontal - has an effect on the console?

Recommended Posts

Okay, so I'm playing Burnout: Revenge (awesome game btw), and I go on Live to play a crash battle, everything is fine until I finish choosing my car... then my Xbox tells me the disc is unreadable and I should try clean the disc. Having tried cleaning the disc several times, everytime I load up crash mode, the same error appears. I thought it was weird because it had been working fine up until that point. I tried to think of what could be causing it... then I remembered; the last time I did crash mode was when my Xbox was horizontal (I had changed it to vertical since then). So, I put my Xbox flat again, load up Burnout, enter crash mode... and guess what? It works fine.

So what could be causing this? I'm definately keeping my Xbox horizontal from now on, I did prefer it upright but it's no big deal, I'm just curious as to why this could happen?

Well seeing as it's putting more strain on the DVD Drive and disk been upright, it could be a number of things. Many think the 360 was design for upright, as you may see it upright in images, By the looks of things to me I believe it was designed to be laid flat.

Glad you got it going though. One think I hate about Burnout is the achievements on it suck.

Hello,

When i got my '360 i placed it in the Vertical Position, i kept getting read errors in Test Drive Unlimited and Saints Row.

I decided one day to just try putting it Horizontaly for a change, never had a Disc Read Error in the mentioned games again ( Coincidence? )

But i keep getting RB6: Vegas Disc Errors ...

vertical here as well. not a physicist so can't tell you which position involves more strain *blushing*.

however, the 360 looks weird laid flat. the HD is obviously designed to look like a top (hat).

It does seem like vertical is the natural position for the 360, but if it's putting more strain on the drive or whatever I'd just rather have it flat.

seriously doubt the position makes that much of a difference. have seen PC's hanging from every possible angle working fine, and they're not the most perfectly built contraptions as we all know. if MS can't make the centralized, standardized 360 to those standards, then we truly are in trouble. again, that's very, very unlikely tho.

Although I doubt the position of the console really has a significant impact on some of the issues that are reported, I can't help but be cautious with my peice. Especially considering how delicate we know the 360 is.

Horizontal.
