Subscribing to Topics - Limited to 7 Days?

Recommended Posts

I have been told that the time limit to a subscribed thread is 7 days, and I was wondering why this was and if it could be extended. A week just doesn't cut it for most threads and it's annoying if you forget about a subscribed and when you try to go back it's gone. If you didn't post in it, it's basically impossible to find it.

Ah Slimy I was also wondering why there seems to be a cut off point, was just about to start a similar thread,I've wondered this for a while & never got round to asking about it,thought I was on my own too, maybe thats why,I suppose if you are on the relavent forums everyday or most days you are likely to see replies to tour post/thread you started however theres always a chance you'll miss it for whatever reason.

I think a minimum of 14 days and max of 30 would be a lot better, dunno how acheivable things like that are judging by the amount of registered members etc though, would be cool to get an answer though.

The subscription is canceled only if the topic hasn't been replied to for 7 days. Is it still worth keeping the subscription after 7 days of no replies?

Yay for bookmarks...

Think of subscriptions to topics as bookmarks specifically for neowin that can be accessed from any computer once you login to the site.

Or effort. To hell with that!

But yeah, I've known about this feature for a while and it isn't necessary for anyone to care. How can you be interested in a topic to subscribe to it, but not check on it so that it falls of the face of the internet?

I don't find this a problem.

Yes definitely? I don't want to bookmark every single web page I ever visit. Please re-consider this. What is the logic behind it anyway? Surely it doesn't consume any more resources or disk space???

I often on other forums leave subscriptions in place if I think I may need them in future (which often I do). I do go through them regularly to clear out old ones but 7 days is ridiculous. If I were to bookmark every page just in case my bookmarks would become completely unmanageable, both serve different purposes.

As for Googlesync and Foxmark I don't see why I should have to install a third party app to add back in a perfectly good function that is turned off. I've no use for either of those products. No offence but it sounds like one of "those" rules that someone puts in place without giving any thought to it at all. Please re-consider this ludicrous rule, utter madness :) .

Well whoopy doo for you. I don't see why I should check a thread every day just because. I'd love to know the logic behind this???

Like others have said 7 days is nothing. I have an ongoing problem for example that has been effecting me for a few months so I regularly check in on the thread but it's a right pain to constantly have to re-search for all my posts.

Also don't forget you don't get e-mails if you aren't subscribed to a thread so have no idea it's been replied to.

For example: I've not checked a thread for 8 days I lose it's subscription, someone replies with the answer to the problem but I don't find out until I remember to specifically check the thread and then have to waste time searching for the thread just to find it. The e-mail notification is all but useless if it only works for 7 days.

Couldn't you set it up so you get an email about the latest post? Then you get a link to the thread.

Yes I can thank you but afaik that only works if you're subscribed to the thread. So when the 7 days are up you won't get e-mails telling you there is a reply :(

But as long as there are active posts, it will never unsubscribe, and you will keep on getting emails. Even if it does, you would have gotten at least one email about the thread and then be able to read all the posts and make a reply if you wanted.

Although this isn't much of a problem for me, I don't see why it shouldn't either be removed or extended.

Most threads which are over 7 days old normally die anyway. They get thrown to the bottom the list, and everyone just eventually forgets about them.

If it's really important, bookmark it, or make a note on your calendar/diary or something :p
