360 Hard Drive Question

Recommended Posts

I want to get a 360 but I just got a 250 GB external HD and I was wondering could I get away with getting the core system and use the external drive or so I have to spring for the one with the 20 GB HD?

unless i'm doing something wrong (plugging it in) you can't use USB drives as extra storage on the 360. So you'll still need a Memory Card or the official drive. I have a USB 2.0 drive here and it just wont work with it no matter which port i plug it into, works just fine in my laptop tho.

try this Datel Xport 360

I think you will still need the xbox 360 harddrive to make it work but at least it will let you backup your harddrive to your regular pc harddrive. I've never used it and don't know anything about it personally I was just browsing 360 accessories one day and came across it and thought it might be something that would fit your needs.

I've said a million times before. Why not just buy a 120gb 2.5" HDD and remove the 20gb, ghost the 20gb over to the 120gb and your done.

I've done it for 3 people including myself, and they haven't had much trouble, except for warranties :p

Can it be detected on the 360( Live that is, get caught)? And, isn't that (2.5) notebook SATA drives?

Yes, its a 2.5" SATA drive :)

And yes it does get detected, and no you can't get caught. Why would you be banned for something like this?!

Modifying hardware, you did on the Original Xbox ;).

As far as I knew, when you ghost a 20gb image onto a 120gb (or bigger) it would just show up ass a 20gb, since you cannot modify the partition table. Maybe you know something I don't.
