Amd Hammer: One Hot Chip?

Recommended Posts

A WHILE BACK, AMD gave a ballpark figure as to the power requirements of the Hammer. The figure seems fairly respectable, a 100 million transistor chip operating at a moderate 70 watts. Whether this low power figure is due to a comparatively low clock speed or the silicon on insulator (SOI) process is difficult to tell. Suffice to say that, for a chip that is supposed to be PR 3400+, that's a very low power requirement.
