Best FPS for x360 next to Gears?

Recommended Posts

I know Gears of War isn't technically a FPS game, but it has very similar gameplay.

I'm looking for a new one, as I've beaten Gears of War probably a gagillion times already. I have the new Rainbow Six LV, and I find it kind of boring. Maybe I'm not far enough in it, but it is almost too realistic for me. I prefer more unrealistic (or rather, surrealistic) gameplay.

I'm considering:

Prey, Quake 4, and FEAR.

I think I can pick one of these up for used at Hastings.

Any recommendations are welcome.

Not a FPS but def worth playing is the newest Splinter Cell:Double Agent... single player is great and the online play is lots of fun.. offers co-op and vs.

Just saw brandons post... def check out COD3..

Lost Planet is due out on 01/12 .. if you havent checked out the trailers on the marketplace.. go do it... should be a great game

Hmmm...for some reason I enjoy shooting up space aliens more then soldiers/terrorist. I tried the Splinter Cell:DA demo and wasn't that impressed and I've heard that CoD3 has a lot of bugs that need to be worked out.

FEAR > Prey > Quake.

Three mediocre games. Very repetitive gameplay and dull plot, though Quake 4 was the better of the titles listed (it didn't try to be new but it was quite fun).

I thought that Gears of War has very repetitive gameplay and a dull plot... still enjoyed playing it. In fact, the one part in Gears that I didn't like was that stupid vehicle level which was really the only deviation from the same repetitive gameplay. All FPS games have very repetitive gameplay and if you enjoy that gameplay then you enjoy the game.

Can you think of a FPS game that did not have repetitive gameplay?

The local Hastings currently has a deal: buy 2 used xbox 360 games get the 3rd for a penny. I think I'll just get what is available because you can't beat the deal. (I'm pretty sure I saw Quake 4 and Prey used..)

Just by the Quake 4 demo I was more impressed then I was with Doom 3 (which I played through and it's expansions). I really liked Doom 3 too.

I like games where you blast through levels with super cool weapon effects and don't have to think about anything. I consider that a nice pass time. I've never been able to get into a Tom Clancy FPS game (although I'm going to try really hard w/ R6 LV 'causs I already bought it).... i think it is because I have to think too hard. I don't like to have to plan out how I'm going to enter a room...i just want to run in shooting everytime and that doesn't really work with Tom Clancy games.

Amen.

Quake 4 is easily and by far the worst game out of those three. It is absolutely stuck in a time warp of crappy FPS clones from the Doom days. F.E.A.R. is far more fun than Quake 4 can ever aspire to be. I mean, hell, in Quake 4 they get so tired of spawning enemies from hidden areas that they have spawn machines where the enemies just mindlessly charge at you.

No CoD2 love? Sure they're humans but I enjoyed the single player a lot more than CoD3's.

COD2's a lot better than COD3, IMO, but I'm just a little burnt out on WWII FPS games, personally.

Prey was a little let down on 360 when I got the demo to play to compare to my PC version. Some of the weapons have been toned down. FEAR is okay, I bought the game for online play and love it, completed, besides Prey, FEAR and the PC XP. The game is awesome but it doesn't use the full of the 360's offerings, but don't let that put you off.

Quake 4 is a good game but is nothing compared to Prey or FEAR.

FEAR's achievements do suck a little, but in the end, I would still say:

1 - FEAR

2 - Prey

3 - Quake 4

4 - Grannys & Guns 2

^^ Tell me about it. I was just going to do a few of the F.E.A.R. achievements for fun since I barely ever go for most of them, but they're hard as heck.

I thought Lost Planet was rubbish. Stupid energy system got on my nerves.

The graphics were well hyped, but they didn't seem much to me.

And the story sucked. All Japcom comic book crap.

Yes, I played on the proper game too, not the demo.

^^ Those were my impressions from the demo, sucks seeing they didn't change the full game much... that stupid energy system bugged the hell out of me for the single player E3 demo.

Only thing I like is online team play, I love that :).
