stanley porkchop
Three mediocre games. Very repetitive gameplay and dull plot, though Quake 4 was the better of the titles listed (it didn't try to be new but it was quite fun). You're funny. And DarkGash, don't bother: they're not listening

neoadorable
yes dark, ragnarok's right. in the life of a forum inhabitant few things are as important as knowing who to actually talk to. but anyway, Prey was awesome and FEAR, too, altho like dragon only had them on the PC. the FEAR demo was just like the XP version, tho. Sethos
Call of Duty 3 seems to be a decent FPS game - Despite the bugs ... But out of those you listed, I'd pick F.E.A.R Because i think the other two were poor PC titles ( Imo )
sweetham
It would be better if the thread subject was "Best FPS on 360?", excluding the next to Gears part. If you know its not a FPS, then dont put it in the FPS catergory. If you want to include FPS with gears it should maybe be re-phrased "Best Shooter on 360 next to Gears?" Then you wouldnt have so many people asking questions about it.

theyarecomingforyou
You're funny. And why is that? I wasn't trying to be. Quake 4 was a solid, if unexciting, old-school shooter - it didn't try to do anything new but it took the old formula and brought it slightly more up-to-date. Prey set out to do big things but the plot was tedious, the gameplay gimmicky and the AI non-existant. FEAR was just tedious. Full stop. I don't really care whether people agree with me - that is not the point of me posting. None of the games are classics.

F.E.A.R. is the closest thing we've come to an original FPS classic since Half-Life.

If I were to ask you "Whats the Best Combat Racing game for Gamecube next to Mario Kart?", would you respond with anything like Nascar, Indy, etc. Not likely. Even though they are similar genres the distinction between them still stands. You may not see the difference but some do and that is why it was brought to question. That is also why I suggested possible solutions for topics of similar nature in the future. Not trying to jump on anyones bones or anything, just providing suggestions. DirtyLarry Veteran Posted January 5, 2007 Veteran Share Posted January 5, 2007 Despite the bugs, which do definitely exist, I have to strongly suggest COD3. I literally just beat it about 15 minutes ago, and although some of the deviations in the gameplay are a little corny (pressing A for the crowbar then moving the right stick up and down to pry a door is one example of semi-lame), however overall I think they do a great job of mixing the gameplay up. And although I use that one example and it is simple, it is still a nice little break from things overall. Driving The Jeep, Tank, Manning the Mounted Machine Guns, Taking control of the Flak Cannon, Taking control of Mortars, Having to Snipe, Etc. Etc. Etc., all really does mix up the action and pacing quite well. While FEAR was good, it was nowhere near greaat. It truly got incredibly repetitive with level after level of office building scenarios towards the middle and end. So much so I had no desire at all to finish it, so I never did. I gave up after about 3 hours of the same scene. And while the SloMo was also cool, the novelty wears off really quick once you figure out in can be used in almost every fire fight, especially when you keep in mind bullet time was done how many years ago with Max Payne. So if you are looking for varying gameplay in an FPS for the 360, bugs and all, COD3 is by far the title to get.
maeby
I thought that Gears of War has very repetitive gameplay and a dull plot... still enjoyed playing it. In fact, the one part in Gears that I didn't like was that stupid vehicle level which was really the only deviation from the same repetitive gameplay. All FPS games have very repetitive gameplay and if you enjoy that gameplay then you enjoy the game. Can you think of a FPS game that did not have repetitive gameplay? agree, thats why i was always confused with all the fuss over halo, it was the most repetitive game ive ever seen. go to an inside enviroment, kill everyone, go outside, kill everyone...go inside, kill everyone....rinse and repeat

True, but that's not a genre that's easily confused with people. If you said "what's the best third-person racing game" and someone gave you a game with a driver's view only, then THAT would be comparable to what we are talking about. spenser.d
just picked up COD 3 and i like it Agreed. I got it for X-mas, but I've only finally gotten around to playing it today, since I also got THP8 for X-mas and have been playing that. I played the first two chapters and was quickly reminded of why I love the CoD series (I haven't played CoD2 in quite a while). It's great stuff. -Spenser
LOC Veteran Posted January 5, 2007 Veteran Share Posted January 5, 2007 FEAR is the closest we've come to an original FPS in quite awhile on the PC. Since HL2 I'd have to say. But in any event, for 360 I'd have to go with a tie here, since you already own Rainbow Six Vegas (boring?!) here's my other two recommendations - Call of Duty 3 - like everyone else the MP is fun as all hell. Nothing like playing on a tank map and just blowing crap up. And it blows up real good in CoD3. Halo 2 - Yup, Halo 2. I got a used copy for like, $11.99 at my local Gamestop, and I'm happy I did. Still alot of people playing it, and while it isn't the most amazing game online, it is an absolute blast. That is, if you don't already have it :D I'd also suggest waiting for Lost Planet, that's gonna rock and it comes out in 7 days.
Shadrack
QUOTE From first post! Please read guys! Since when do people read the OP of a thread before commenting. Most people just want to write and really aren't interested in what other people think about things. Thanks for all your advice guys! I'm still not sure which games I'll end up picking up. I might just grab all of them because I'm in a real first person shooter kick at the moment. heh. I dunno about the COD series. I guess I can give it a try (probably just rent it...i don't remember seeing a demo)... but in the past I've found military oriented games boring compared to space monster shootem ups with super cool plasma pulse rifles (heh). The only game I've played that was set in WW2 era was Return to Castle Wolfenstein, and that was hardly realistic. I think I may enjoy Rainbow Six: LV once I get past the 2nd level. The game is just moves so painfully slow, and even on the first level I found myself wondering around aimlessly asking myself, now what the **** am I suppose to do. About 15 minutes of walking around aimlessly is all I can take until I don't want to play anymore. If I wanted to wonder around aimlessly I'd play Oblivion or something. Oh well. When is the next Jedi Knight game due out for the x360 if at all? I remember really enjoying Jedi Knight 2 for the PC back in the day. thanks again, -shad
