Ayepecks
So I decided I'd give the whole modding my 360 controller thing a shot since I barely ever use the wired one and thought it'd be fun while I have some spare time. So, I followed this guide and painted it black. Right now, however, I want to go a step further and shorten the USB cable attached to the controller. The current length, whatever it is, is far too long for me since my 360 rests on my desk along with the TV I use, and if I want to game with the controller on my PC I would prefer the USB cord to be shorter there, too. I took a USB cord off an old mouse that's roughly the length I want, and noticed after cutting it with scissors (primitive, I know, but it's all I have laying around there are 4 colored wires -- the same amount, and same colors, as the wires attached the the controller's board. Can I connect this to the controller to shorten it? Is there a good, cheap tool to remove the outter layering (I forgot what it's called, and also forgot the name of the device, as I remember using one before for a project in physics of wiring a house) of the wires from the old mouse's USB wire? ToneKnee
You can use the scissors to remove the outside plastic of the wires if you want to reveal them if I'm understand this request correctly? :s
Ayepecks
Not really, it ends up taking some of the wiring with it.
+Dick Montage Subscriber² Posted January 6, 2007 Subscriber² Share Posted January 6, 2007 You can yes. Score the outer sheath with a SHARP knife, repeatedly until you cut through the outer sheath. Then do the same a little further away. Then do the same ALONG the sheath. This basically will create a C-shaped bit of sheath you can take off. But why not just cut the 360 wire. Cut it again to make it shorter. Get a cable stipper, and use it, then re-solder the cables together?
