My personal ideas do what you want with them:

Donators: People that give money to Neowin (like right now but with any amount higher than $5 (in fact, lower the actual $10 to $5))

- All what we have actually: a badge, full access to forums and some more little privileges like more PMs.

Gold Members (Or whatever what you want): Something like $10

- Able to edit it's posts in anytime, more privileges (be creative...)

Premium Members: For those that really love the site, a deluxe pack where we can really feel special :p I would not mind to pay 20$ or even 25$

- Ad free skins, blogs, lesser sig / ava size rules ( I would really like to use nicer PNG sigs rather than Gif... 100k plz )

Here's what I chose

-If you go multi-tier I'll certainly consider anything reasonable

-a blog

-more PM space, more upload storage, larger avatars/signatures (beyond 20k/50k)

I'd pay a lot more just for those couple things. The main thing is I just want to support Neowin, but I'd definitely get the most expensive subscriber option, plus a cool badge wouldn't hurt either :)

This has been suggested before. And I will repost my thoughts again on this. I would be VERY interested in buying (hats, shirts, stickers, mug, so on) items with Neowin logos on them. Would even pay more then the items are worth (if they didn't have the logos) to support Neowin.

I think that was mentioned before in the general public area and they said it would use too much resources.

Im sure they could hire a new member of staff to monitor it though, and could be a very profitable way to use your resources ;)

edit: maybe if they opened a cafepress shop or something?

We have a cafepress shop. Search Neowin and you'll find the links.

The problem is that anything involving the collection of money has to involve an Admin. We don't want to run the risk of Neowin's funds being absconded. That would kinda suck.

Just a little perk... because when I'm viewing the site as a guest and not logged in as staff it annoys me is not there... what about the ability to see who's viewing the topic/posting in it???

I think that was brought up before, the reason given was bandwidth. For subscribers though, it shouldn't put too much strain on the servers, right?

I'd like my whole name in orange in the currently active users list tbh, rather than just the orange + we have now :)

I don't think that would happen... it would cause the board stats to be too full of color coded people.. thus making it difficult for members to find staff.

Agreed. Although, considering the number of subscribers vs. people on the board, I'm not sure it would be that confusing.

This is an informal request not pre-approved by upper management so don't get too excited.

Fred, has the upper management commented on this thread at all?

Yes, good question....

I made them aware of it. It is something they wanted to investigate anyway so hopefully our input will help.

Removal of flood control is the absolute top of the list for me. A bit more PM space and removal of the ads would be a bonus, but the flood control is something that I constantly run into problems with.

+1

Maybe you would have some more input from other members if you would put this where anyone can see it.

Probably that non subscribers would be more interested to buy a subscriber package if they got feature that they want.

I don't know how Neowin's management operates, but i would think that would be the next step if they did approve gathering of new features for new packages. Right now i think this is just Fred gathering some ideas and trying to see if management is interested. No need to get the masses in arise if nothing is going to happen.

I was going to suggest giving us more access to the board or simply making newbies aware that they should contact Subscribers for advice etc on the board. However i realise that just because someone pays money to Neowin, does not mean they will not act like tos*ers :)

No one in particular, just mean that it would most likely happen.

Thats a good idea actually - it might help lighten the load on staff. In addition to the subscriptions (i would still pay the subscription anyway), having some of the subscribers "hired" and called "support" or something would be a really cool idea.

Although whoever had that job would have to fight off a hell of a lot of noobs ;)

edit: "burden the load - WTF"

The Neowin Email Subscription has been cancelled, we will no longer be accepting new subscriptions there and because we can't 'delete' the package due to active members, we have set the price unrealistically high.

We will have at least 1 package back on or before April. I will post more details on what those packages will consist of as we get closer to that date.

Existing email subscribers will have the opportunity to retain their email accounts after their subscription expires, but this will only be on request.

Members that subscribe 'for a laugh' because of the high price and the additional admin duties it requires to remove failed pending subscriptions will have warnings placed against their accounts.

Thanks for your support everyone, we'll have them back, but improved!
