How about a quarterly/half yearly competition higher/highest tier subscribers can enter to win hardware/software liceneses? Give it a name, promote it well on the site - "The Neowin Half Yearly Subscribers Showdown?" - Just one of the great features about subscribing!

As Neowin is a fairly large tech site maybe some of the companies would offer reduced costs for Neowin in return for some promotion/advertising?

For the competition itself it could be design based/question based, ect. Subscribers vs Subscribers, poll based, whatever...

Basically something like this, chuck in a couple of other plusses such as less ads/more pm space/bigger avatars & sigs or anything already mentioned.

Keeping in mind as well, whatever you guys would offer would be scaled to how many people are actually subscribing to the higher tiers - I wouldn't expect you guys to be out of pocket or break even as it's not worth the hassle, but taking a small loss of donation money for a competition could spur on more people to donate and overall be healthier for the site.

Worthwhile suggestion? (Y) (N) ? - I don't even know how much money is made from subscribing just now, it might not even be enough for something like this.... but im sure some antivirus/winrar/other app subscriptions wouldn't be too much?...

Basically something eyecatching that makes people want to be a part of it and help out - If you promote the competition on the site, board members will see it and think hey thats pretty cool, how do I join in? - YOU SUBSCRIBE, and by subscribing you also get all these other great features/advantages...

If things worked well, you could even tier the competition to give basic subscribers a little something - 1 free years subscription? access to the mod lounge for a week? (;)), 1 free license to a cheaper application...

Just brainstorming, I do realise this topic is verrry old, but who says it can't still shape the future to come?

Could subscribing get rid of the Intellitxt ads on the front page?

The other ads I don't mind so much, but I really freaking hate those things.

It "has to be" possible since intellitxt is removed from the forums when you login.

Heh.

I really don't mind any of the ads besides those.

On one of the news topics my mouse kept going over it, and a stupid pop up would appear and try and play a video.

Highly annoying, lol.

Though all the other ads are fine, they don't intrude at all on my browsing.

I think we should be able to upload more pics, like when i try to via photobucket, it only lets me have 20 pics up. Maybe change that to 100!

Best bet would be to create a folder on photobucket you can let the public access for the mean time.
