Spartan_X
Halo 3 Beta Via Crackdown Not For Core Owners Sorry, Core Pack Xbox 360 owners, but you really should have known better. Those of you sporting an Xbox 360 sans hard drive are going to be, unsurprisingly, shut out of the Halo 3 beta if you purchase your copy of Crackdown hoping to secure a spot. We're basing that on the new boxart for the North American release of Crackdown, courtesy of this week's Bungie update. Sure, you can go out and buy that hard drive now, but for those of you leaning toward purchasing the oft-slighted "'tard pack" to get your Halo 3 fix, just don't do it. Some brief clarification on just how this works was also given: Basically, if you buy a specially marked copy of Crackdown for Xbox 360, in the US (details for other regions will be decided by those territories) then you will receive some kind of code allowing you to play in the Halo 3 Beta. Got it! But why Crackdown? You'll have to head to Bungie for the answer. Source: Kotaku
DrCheese
well duh :p Whereelse is the beta going to download to? Ya they could put it on CD/DVD whatever but a beta is constantly updated so :p The core should have been shot at birth and they should have made the core the current 20gb one and the premium a larger HD. Currently the core just seems to exist to give MS something to throw around and say that the 360 is cheap when its really not(If you want it to be useful)
sweetham
Yeah seeing how one of the pre-requisites (even on the halo3.com website) is to have a 360 premium system w/HD. They have also described that the crackdown disc has a code that will enable you to download the beta when it is released. Where else you going to dl it?...A memory card? Not happening. giga Veteran Posted January 7, 2007 Veteran Share Posted January 7, 2007 Well you could still use a Core and buy the HDD and get the beta. Technicalities!
Menge
oh, please. it's obvious that core systems without HD can't play the beta :| please don't bash this.. how else would they do it?!
MadFerIt
Lol I'm shocked someone had to make a story about this. I mean what do people think? Halo 3 Beta download will fit onto a 64mb Memory Card? Obviously it will require a HDD. But the title is a bit misleading, at least they clarify in the story that it's only those without a HDD. Many core users I'm sure purchase the HDD.
Spartan_X
the reason I posted this article was to prove how easy is to spin things up to make something like this looks like a terrible story... talk about serious press...
LingeringSoul
If you're using an X-Box 360 without a hard drive, you have bigger problems than whether or not you'll get into a beta test.
FreqFace
I was in GAME the other day, just browsing, and I saw some guy who asked what of the assistants what the difference between core and premium was. The assistant basically said you can store more stuff on the premium (neglecting mention of the controller and headset), to which the guy replies "so, I can just buy a core and memory card which is altogether cheaper than the premium, and does the same thing... right, I'll take it". Not only that, the premium had a free game! I felt like saying "noooo!", but then I realised I didn't give a crap what he bought.

oubipaws
If you're using an X-Box 360 without a hard drive, you have bigger problems than whether or not you'll get into a beta test. Thats honestly as simple as it can get....the 360 revolves around the hard drive in my eyes...I am excited to see whether or not the "zephyr" system actually comes out and if they release a bigger hard drive. anywho, wasn't there another game that required a premium system? Maybe not...seems like something else that came out required it.
