FreqFace
Is the IPtv available in the uk? At first I would have thought no, but after reading this link, it seems BT are launching IPTV. Woohoo!
bdsams Veteran Posted January 8, 2007 Veteran Share Posted January 8, 2007 Im confused on this IPTV, the website doesnt really help much basically you have to have a service like comcast, then you have to pay another fee so you can watch and record on your x360? Elliott
Wow, aren't you bright. Ever thought of the HD-DVD format on the 360 has being half-arsed without HDMI? Well guess what, it is. In its current form the 360 does NOT output HD Audio, Optical cable doesn't have the bandwidth to transmit it. The only way to receive HD audio is through HDMI or 6-7 channel Analog cables, which I highly doubt MS will release a dongle with a million cables on it. So before you go off ranting about what others would like to see to complete a TRUE HD experience I suggest you actually research the topic instead of making half-arsed assumptions. You claim it to be half-assed, yet I bet you could never tell the difference between "standard" 5.1 channel audio and "HD" 5.1 channel audio. Optical has the bandwidth to make people happy, and component has the picture quality to make people happy. You have to be practically superhuman or sitting a foot away from a 60" TV to see and hear the difference between digital and analog on a 1080p set pumping audio out with optical out. Now, I realize some of you do have sets that only allow 1080p signals through DVI and HDMI. I hope Microsoft does release a cable for you all. But to those with sets that accept 1080p through Component or VGA, stop bickering. I know you're just looking for an excuse to use the HDMI port on the back of your TV even though it won't offer a vast improvement.

PL_ Veteran Posted January 8, 2007 Veteran Share Posted January 8, 2007 I'm confused... What's the Zune update? What's this TV thing, I can watch HDTV via X360? When's Live Anywhere coming out, and what was said? What parts of this should me, a British X360 Live Silver + Vista Ultimate user, care about? +dnast Subscriber² Posted January 8, 2007 Subscriber² Share Posted January 8, 2007 again why in the game section? Did you read the original post? All but 1 sentence is Xbox related, and even that announcement is about a product that will be useful to 360 owners.
Spartan_X
I'm confused... as usual... :p What's the Zune update?an update to confirm new features for Zune and Zune MP :woot:What's this TV thing, I can watch HDTV via X360? it's a broadband service that delivers HDTV signals to your box, in this case the 360. When's Live Anywhere coming out, and what was said?sometime this year... not official but I'll say summer it's a perfect time for its launch. :)What parts of this should me, a British X360 Live Silver + Vista Ultimate user, care about? if you want the service and there's a service provider in your country then you're all set... :)
Brandon Live Veteran Posted January 8, 2007 Veteran Share Posted January 8, 2007 Im confused on this IPTV, the website doesnt really help muchbasically you have to have a service like comcast, then you have to pay another fee so you can watch and record on your x360? No not really. Basically, instead of paying for regular Comcast service, you pay for their IPTV service. Then instead of a regular digital cable box (which is slower, has lame UI, and relatively bad HD quality compared to IPTV), you get an IPTV box - or you use an Xbox 360. I'm not sure if cable companies will be offering IPTV too soon since they already have their own cable services, but they certainly could. IPTV, however, will be a very big deal for phone companies offering fiber-channel connections, like Verizon's FiOS. I think they're already offering IPTV services over FiOS, though I really hope they support the 360 and MS IPTV this year. I'm confused...What's the Zune update? What's this TV thing, I can watch HDTV via X360? Dunno about Zune, but read my post above about the TV service. When's Live Anywhere coming out, and what was said? I think during the keynote they said "this summer."
magik
I think you're getting your hopes up for something that indeed was just poor wording. That FAQ hasn't been the only place Bungie (a very credible source on this, mind you) has stated that. I mean look at it - what kind of a mess would it be for them to be able to pull that off, if it's even possible at all. I don't think it is based on how the original game for Xbox is written and how they're changing it for Vista (you gotta keep in mind - they're completely redoing the whole matchmaking system for H2V, something they can't do for the Xbox version)./edit - I would like to iterate that, obviously, I could be very wrong, but I generally like to go by what Bungie has stated, even if MS specifically says something contrary, but in this case, it wasn't really that specific either. -Spenser I'm not getting my hopes up, I could care less if it happens, really. And since Bungie already said that it's not happening then I doubt it will at all. But, the way they worded it hints towards it happening, so unless Bungie again says that it's not happening, you never know, right? moron.. maybe before going off on your rant you would remember that there are a large amount of people who have HDTV's that do not support 1080p over component or vga... so while new features may be important to you... some others would like to be able to enjoy the features that are currently only available to some... Exactly. (Y)
mattmatik
The IPTV addition looks sick. Hopefully, the service won't be too hard to find when the software is released for the 360. From watching the YouTube video of IPTV on 360, you can almost guarantee a bigger hard drive coming out, since recorded TV will be stored on the 360 HDD. This kind of stuff is exactly what I was hoping for when I got my 360. Integrate my entire home entertainment into one box. Can't wait for all of this stuff to mature :)

I know you're just looking for an excuse to use the HDMI port on the back of your TV even though it won't offer a vast improvement. Care to elaborate what is "standard" 5.1? The difference between a perfectly produced 5.1 Dolby Digital track to a 5.1 DTS tracks is night and day. Why? DTS tracks use less compression than DD tracks. HD tracks use even less compression to no compression compared to DTS and can only be transmitted via two means as previously stated. You cant sit there and say there is no difference between 640/kbs compared to 18/mps. Thats like trying to persuade someone that 480p is on par with 1080p. Digital vs analog on a HDTV? Are you crazy, analog looks like sh*t on plasmas, less so on an LCD. No need for superhuman powers to tell the difference there. For the record, some of us dont "game" on Logitech or Bose speakers, but on equipment that can truly perform material thrown at it. BTW, you still havent refutiated the claim that the HD-DVD offering for the 360 is half-asrsed.

Correct. We reported earlier this week from CES that Microsoft announced cross-platform play between Vista PC Halo 2 and Xbox Halo 2, much like how Shadowrun will work. Tonight, we learned from Microsoft that this won't be the case.Tonight, we received an official statement from Microsoft about the situation: "While we continue to explore and build new products for Windows Vista and Xbox 360 cross-platform gaming, there are currently no plans for cross-platform gameplay via Halo 2 Vista." Why Microsoft's Robbie Bach announced cross-platform Halo 2 action during Bill Gates's CES Keynote and Microsoft product managers reconfirmed this to us the following day is rather confusing. Microsoft tonight did tell us that there would be some sort of communication between the two versions. However, this will not include play between the Vista version and the Xbox version. http://www.gameinformer.com/News/Story/200....2114.46042.htm
