Spartan_X
Moore: Zune will game by '08 Microsoft's portable music player will be able to play games within the next 18 months, says Xbox vice president. Nintendo and Sony are currently going head-to-head in the portable gaming business, but they'll have company down the road. Microsoft, which has long been rumored to be entering the portable gaming market, is adding gaming features to its new portable media device, the Zune. Microsoft vice president Peter Moore revealed to reporters at CES that the company is planning to add games to the Zune within 18 months, according to a Bloomberg report. "I love the interface, I love the screen," Moore said of the Zune. Currently, the Zune functions mainly as a portable music player, like Apple's iPod. However, the iPod remains the dominant music player in the business and recently expanded its functions to include video playback and gaming. Before the Zune was officially announced, many suspected the device was going to play games. But when the veil was officially pulled off the portable, Microsoft simply said it will offer "great music and entertainment experiences." It's unclear how complex the games for the machine will be. Games for the iPod, which include more casual titles like Tetris, Pac-Man, and Bejeweled, aren't currently up to par technologically with those of the Nintendo DS or PlayStation Portable. Microsoft was unavailable for comment as of press time. gigapixels Veteran Posted January 9, 2007 Veteran Share Posted January 9, 2007 (edited) "I love the interface, I love the screen," Moore said of the Zune. I know this is kind of off-topic, but seriously, why do we need to hear this from EVERY exec of EVERY company about their OWN product when they talk to the press? OF COURSE YOU'RE GOING TO SAY THAT. IT'S YOUR PRODUCT. /rant

Spartan_X
I'm sure the 20 or so people that own a Zune will be sorta thrilled. Microsoft has sold ``hundreds of thousands'' of Zune devices,'' said Robbie Bach, president of the company's entertainment and devices division, in an interview. Pierce28
Woot! Games on my Zune! However, I bought my Zune for music and videos. If it can game, cool. If it can't, it already meets my desires for it. If I want to game, I'll log onto my computer TYVM.
Smashing Pumpkin
Yay Prickly Poo, ATHF Rocks! They are very ambitious for the Zune arn't they! I personally don't think it'll be able to win against the iPod, the market is already saturated with idiotic fools listening to their ****ty pieces of crap iPods... hissss, iPods... The NDS can also play music and videos don't forget people.... DS for media system of the year, woooo!
AlphaPrime
I wonder if it's just going to be just small 2D mobile games or fully 3D games like PSP. If it's the latter then they will need to add an analog stick/disc and extra buttons.

Ayepecks
Cool. Show me sales statistics. I can say I've sold hundreds of thousands of flying cars too. Yes, and you also don't have Microsoft's credibility. And please do not say "what credibility?!" as I highly doubt a multi-billion dollar corporation has bad credibility when it comes to numbers. You can't match that ;) It's all well and good that the Zune will have games, but I don't think they'll be very good, naturally. It's not really meant to be a gaming device. But anything's better than nothing.
