MadFerIt
Unfortunately, my 360 bit the dust about a week ago. I was just barely within my warranty period so Microsoft is taking it back free of charge. My console was a launch version which I purchased late Nov./ early Dec. When I get a new/refurbished 360 (How do we know what it will be?) I will try to post any changes I notice if this thread is still around.By the way, I am somewhat of a videophile also and have played GoW fairly extensively so I should notice any major differences. ;) Thanks man I appreciate it :). Good to know another videophile is on the case hehehe. Will clearing the HD cache mess up my patches? Clearing HDD cache removes all your "game updates" as well as cache files. But it won't do anything to your saved games, downloads (including game addons), or the 360 BIOS (so dashboard updates aren't affected). If you're 360 is connected to the internet it should no big deal, the downloads are very short. anyone bothered to see if the disc was faulty? or a minor scratch or dust, or just a dud disc? Definitely, my Gears of War DVD is in great condition, no scratches or dust. Framerate in GoW drops when it's in HD. I was at an all-nighter and decided to bring my 360. We decided to get GoW in the morning and played it on my friend's HDTV, framerate did go down, espicially during cutscenes.I come back home later that afternoon and hook it back up on my SDTV. No framerate issues. Period. Hmmm really eh? Well when I tested it on the older console it was using the same resolution (1366x768). So that can't be the problem. Will it require me to download all the patches one by one? or will it be in package.. If you know what i mean :p
Tharius
Well, I got my 360 back about a week ago. They ended up repairing it. I checked the serial number just to make sure it was mine. The only noticable difference is a slightly longer initial start up time. I found that it performed nearly the same in GoW. It does have times when the framerate drops but only slightly and it's usually split screen with lots of action so no real suprise there. I didn't notice it any particularilly worse framerates as you described. Anyway, there is my update. Just wanted to let you know MadFerIt. :p

There is definitely a difference in the consoles I've tested but.. It doesn't really matter since any console you buy brand-new will be the exact same. Reminds me, really need to renew my Xbox Live Gold service lol.
Brandon Live Veteran Posted February 2, 2007 Veteran Share Posted February 2, 2007 Keep in mind that things like your output resolution can affect the framerate, depending on how the game adapts to different resolutions (some games will adjust FSAA / texture filtering / etc to accomodate different resolutions). Given things like the state of the OS in the background, fragmentation of the hard disk, etc... it would be very difficult to do an exact comparison between two consoles.
