[Unofficial] Lost Planet Discussion

Recommended Posts

My copy of the collector's edition turned up today (thanks play.com!).

The collectors edition comes in a metal box with a bonus CD, Extra multiplayer map (comes with a key to download it via xbox live) and artwork book.

So far I've completed 2 levels in single player and had a go at the multiplayer mode too.

I'm really enjoying the single player mode so far, the first time you get to pilot a VS (Vital Suit) is pretty cool as they really pack a lot of firepower. Plot wise there seems to be a really interesting story developing.

The multiplayer mode seems pretty good. Its very fast and frantic but to be honest I'm not really sure what the objectives are, I think I'll enjoy it more once I figure what to do!

The main hurdle in lost planet is getting used to the controls. Stick with it though and you'll find an enjoyable game.

Strange then, every review I've seen so far pretty much states the story sucks in the game and that it's told with retarded cut scenes that make no sense. But I'm glad you think otherwise, another reason for me to get the game tomorrow :D

I'm at the last level now and have to fight the final boss, the story started off quite good imo, but as you progress there are plot twists that aren't really explained or are just forgotten later on like it didn't really matter.

but all that is forgotten again when you jump back in the action with your awesome vs battling dozens of huge aliens and a big dune-like worm and seeing all the chaos and explosions, so friggin intense. i love it.

The game is quite big, though you have to keep rushing because you have to keep refilling your energy, think I've played 6 hours so far, though I'm playing on easiest settings and died only once in the entire game so far. after this I'm going for normal, then hard, but extreme seems to be way too extreme (or so i read)

Lost Planet has had a mixed bag of reviews. I ended up giving the game a shot and have found it to be enjoyable so far. I hope you end up enjoying it too ;)

Do both versions have access to the extra map, or only the Collector's Edition?

According to Gamestop's site, both versions have access, but I'm pretty sure only the CE has access. Anyone have the normal version and can confirm?

From what I have heard the extra map will become available for the standard version of the game via xbox live at a later date but you'll have to pay for it with your microsoft points.

The CE comes with an access card that gives you direct access to the map.

disposable, six hours is nothing! too me longer to beat Galaga, i think!!!

Hence why there is multiplayer :) And different difficulty settings, and achievements, and etc :)

To bad I r n00b and can't even get past the first level boss/giant monster thingie. I have no idea how to kill it, and one touch from it kills you. I guess I shouldn't have skipped the opening movie maybe? :|

Is the first level same as the demo level? Because you have to use the rocket launcher.

What do you mean by first level?

Do you mean like the very first opening movie? What I mean is the opening movie with the Green Eye, it is HUGE and comes through buildings...

If you mean the opening sequence with the Green Eye, just run like hell, as you cannot beat it. You will eventually get to a cut scene...

If you mean the actual first level, if I remember correctly (I just played it about three hours ago so year my memory is shot) but the end boss on that level is in like a round cave for lack of a better explanation. Just hop in the two mech VS suits that are in that cave with you as well, and just blast the hell out of it. I think the tail is the thing you are supposed to aim for but not 100% sure. I just keep firing and firing and it was chaotic as can be. I died about 4 times before I finally beat it, and I was on foot actually since both mechs were destroyed.

Or do you mean something else?

Overall I am really liking the game. It does definitely have the best explosions/smoke/rockets to date in a 360 game, visually it is really stunning. At first although I was not crazy about the controls, after about an hour it felt perfectly fine. I am at the beginning of the 3rd mission, and already the various environments are really amazing.

Once I beat the SP Campaign, I will hop online. That is just a weird little habit of mine, I more often than not do not hop online with a game until I beat the SP aspect, I feel as if I will be more prepared, although with GOW I did the exact opposite and hopped online almost right away, and might break my habit with this game as well.

My one and only true beef with the game is as follows... in this day and age, I truly cannot stand games with invisible barriers. I know it has to be done, but this game has so many places that look as if you should be able to go to them, and you just wind up hitting that invisible wall that is set up. What is even worse, is some of the places I have found let you rappel on a ledge, then you jump up into the invisible wall and get knocked down. Like I said, I know it has to exist in many games, it would take way to much horsepower to have such truly open ended levels, but since they must exist, do not make it look like it is an area that can be explored.

Truly just a small gripe.

Overall glad I purchased the game.

This game is truly visually stunning. I'm so far impressed with the graphics and the gameplay. Also, for a Japanese game, it has excellent voiceovers.

I'm torn... I might get a game tomorow since I want something new to play... is it Lost Planet, or Viva Planet?

EDIT: Viva Planet? The hell? Yeah so, I mean Viva Pinata...

Yup, that. I guess I shouldn't have skipped the opening cinematic eh? :)

just finished the first boss and got an achievement. I don't have any more time to play it as I have work in the morning, so I decided to put in the bonus dvd....or so what I thought was a dvd.

It's a stupid cd, with just the soundtrack and wallpapers. Worse yet, this wouldn't plan on my 360. Where's the making of Lost Planet? I guess since it was made in Japan, maybe that's why there is no video, but come on! I'm glad this came with that action figure of a mech, because otherwise, those bonus maps don't make this game worth 59.99....even with the cool case

love the graphics though. It's without a doubt, a next gen game and I haven't experienced any slow downs yet.

;) Honestly though, I am not sure if the cinematic even let you know you had to run. I died like 5-10 times then realized all of the guys around me were running, so I just decided to run with them.

With this game, definitely get used to dying plenty. Just a lot of areas where you have to die to figure out what to do next type of deal. It is not even dying by getting killed, but dying by falling, especially on Mission 4 which I am on now. With that said, I do find it fairly easy to get through more often than not. Just some areas take a death or five to figure out what to do next.

Anyone have any clue how many Missions there are in total? I can say I will be slightly disappointed if I laid down 60$ to beat the game this weekend, which it appears I am on track for doing.

I found the answer to my own question. According to the Achievements List on Xbox360Achievements.org, it looks like there are 11 Missions Total.

I am currently at the very start of Mission 5.

Since Capcom is one of the few developers that almost always lets you know how much time you have been playing a game (which I absolutely love that they do show how long you have been playing, every developer should do it  ), I know I have played so far for 4(h):23(m):24(s).

Although you have the whole "health/life" meter to keep in mind because it is always draining, I have been taking my sweet time and exploring every nook and cranny of each level.

I am thinking if I just had the mind set of getting through the levels as quickly as possible, I would maybe be at the 2 hour mark, possibly even lower.

Speaking of exploring every nook and cranny of the levels, am I the only person that is having difficulty finding every single "marker coin" on each level? The best I have been able to do is 2 on each level.

completed the singleplayer yesterday, the last level was awesome but waaay too short, I wanted to play a bit longer in that awesome VS. :( the ending was incredibly cheesy and just didn't do it for me. :p

also played multiplayer for an hour or 2 and I'm starting to like it, the massive VS battles are really awesome and the gametypes are cool and keep you on the edge of your seat.

Except this is a Capcom game. :p

Neat swag, DarkGash!

Also, I'm stuck on the boss at the end of Mission 4.

It almost seems like my attacks don't hurt him, and he just keeps blasting me with these exploding Akrid things. Really annoying.

Edit: Nevermind. Just beat him. :p
