[X360] Are the rumors true?

Recommended Posts

I have searched, but the search isn't working. [https://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?act=Search&f=180] "360 overheat" is just loading forever. Actually, it finally timed out.

IPB WARNING [2] mysql_query() [function.mysql-query]: Unable to save result set (Line: 635 of /ips_kernel/class_db_mysql_client.php)

Are the rumors about the 360 being extremely prone to overheating true? I mean, I am used to things (PS2, GC, PC) that I could leave on for days on end and not feel worried about.

Have the overheating problems mainly been fixed, or are there still problems. I think my 360 has good ventilation though.

In a nutshell, can I leave my 360 on overnight to download from XBLM and not be worried about it? If it makes a difference I can give a picture of my 360 unit/the ventilation it has.

no serious overheating issues. the back of the console gets warm, that's about it. i leave mine on overday/night often for downloads, no problem.

Well I feel much better. Thanks. I'm just not used to anything producing that much heat (the 360 definitely produces more heat than GC + PS2.)

And in any case, I have a warranty.

Yeah, ive left my 360 on for the whole day after i forgot i was downloading something. I also leave it on my carpet, and for some reason people say make it overheat, and my psu usually has clothes or something on top of it. So you are probably safe.

You probably shouldn't put clothes on top of a PSU! LOL!

I run my Xbox 360 in a small cabinet with a running Dish DVR. The DVR eventually freaks out, but the 360 stays perfectly cool. I even bought mine on launch day. So much for a supposedly flawed first batch of 360s.

I've had my 360 overheat, but that might have been because I was in a small room and it would have been atleast 35-40 degrees celcius in here.

Pc_Madness : When your 360 overheated, did it just turn itself off, no harm done, or did it actually make you have to send it in for warranty? Because I know CPUs turn themselves off when they get hot enough to damage the components.

Mine was just graphics glitching like you get on a normal PC graphics card when its running to hot. I haven't used it since actually as I'm going to get it replaced for other reasons.. occasional freezing, disc read errors and killing my cod3 disc was the last straw. :( Otherwise hes been pretty awesome up to this point. :(

Unless you're smothering it or leaving it in direct sunlight on a hot day while running the whole time, or sitting it on top of a heat vent... you shouldn't have any issues. Last year what most people described as "overheating" was really just faulty hardware - in which case you would have it replaced under warranty. But that would be pretty rare in of itself, especially if you bought it more recently.

Got mine on xmas and no issues, the back of the console does get warm, and my tv/dvd which is about 5 inches from the back of the console gets really warm from the air being pushed out the back of the 360, but I've not had any overheating problems, *touch wood*, I've had 2 disc read errors and once moto gp just stopped working and the 360 made a clicking noise, like, click 1 second or 2, click, etc. It's agreat console though, and I don't even have it online so imagine how chuffed I'd be if I did have live!!!

You can set your 360 to automatically shut down after six hours. So you can download whatever you want and it'll just shut down later. Hopefully, your downloads don't take longer than six hours.

I had the same problem with the 'clicking' drive once. Turned the console off immediately and there was a faint, long mark on the disc. Needless to say, the problem hasn't happend again, and the mark doesn't seem to have effected the game working at all.

This occured AFTER the latest Dashboard update.
