p.hensley
In a Windows xp sp2 environment, I wish to block IE, as well as any other browser and email programs from connecting to the internet but allow other programs, such as Winamp and Windows Media Player for example, to do automatic file retrieval and updates. I suspect I could use Microsoft firewall but have no idea how to configure it, let alone how to prevent easy reversal of such settings by youngsters who will be using the computer. Any suggestions? hydrasp
I believe a firewall from ZoneLabs called ZoneAlarm [Free] allows you to control which applications can access the internet (egress filters), and which applications can accept connections from the internet (ingress filters). It is very easy to use, and I THINK you can password protect/hide the administration screen. If you buy the full version, you can add parental control, and a bunch of other nifty features.
