Steven P. Administrators Posted January 16, 2007 Administrators Share Posted January 16, 2007 I can't seem to get the plugin to auto-install and this page at Adobe won't load for me either. Anyone else having trouble connecting there? Also, does anyone know how to get WMV files to play in Firefox? Whenever theres an MPG it will use the crappy Apple Quicktime plugin but WMV files simply fail then I have to use IE. I know IETab works, but I'd prefer working plugin for WM content. The_Decryptor Veteran Posted January 16, 2007 Veteran Share Posted January 16, 2007 (edited) Well, with WMV files, just make sure they are set to open with "Windows Media Player Plug-in Dynamic Link Library", That should make them work ok. Also, http://doyouwanttodie.com/files/flash%20'n%20stuff/ (just grabbed them from the Adobe site, so they are the latest versions) Edited January 16, 2007 by The_Decryptor
Steven P. Administrators Posted January 16, 2007 Author Administrators Share Posted January 16, 2007 Thanks man, got the flash/shockwave one sorted but how do I make the association with WMV files? it asks to download a plugin and then says "Unknown" (offers WMP10 at the Firefox site). The_Decryptor Veteran Posted January 16, 2007 Veteran Share Posted January 16, 2007 Tools > Options > Content > File Types > Manage Search for WMV, that will tell you what it's set to use (ignore the type though, it says "VLC Media" for me)

DrivenDaily
I'm running also running Vista x64. I got it from MSDNAA and Firefox is the only problem. Windows Media files files won't load and I'm unable to set Firefox as the default browser. Anyone have a possible fix?

Kraftman
Do you see "Windows Media Player Plug-in Dynamic Link Library" in Firefox about:plugins? Put about:plugins into the address bar.
The_Decryptor Veteran Posted January 16, 2007 Veteran Share Posted January 16, 2007 Well, 32Bit Firefox can't load 64Bit plugins, so make sure one of two things are true. You have a 32Bit copy of the WMP plugin You have a 64Bit copy of Firefox. Edit: oh yeah, stupid idea, but make sure WMP is set to load WMV files, the plugin will only handle what WMP can use, and is set to use. Edit 2: This page has a ton of info, http://kb.mozillazine.org/Windows_Media_Player

Steven P. Administrators Posted January 16, 2007 Author Administrators Share Posted January 16, 2007 YAY it works! I followed the instructions from that website. Should I chance it and copy over the newer files from Windows Media Player program files? (I downloaded the WMP9 plugins as directed by that website. Steven P. Administrators Posted January 16, 2007 Author Administrators Share Posted January 16, 2007 Ah nm the file dates are from 1999 in my WMP directory.
Kraftman
My MCE box didn't correctly do the plugins, so I just ripped them from an XP Pro machine with the files (WMP11) and dropped it into C:\PF\Moz\FF\plugins. That worked for me just fine.
