Spartan_X
Report Suggests $92m Revenues For Xbox Live Video A new report from market research firm Emerging Media Dynamics has suggested that combined revenues from the sale of TV shows and movies on Xbox Live could reach as much as $92.25 million through the end of 2007. The report, entitled ?Spotlight on Television 2.0 Leaders: Microsoft Corporation?, suggests that aggregate revenue from the sale of both TV shows and movies could grow to $726 million by 2011. The ability to download video content via the Xbox Live Marketplace was launched last November in the U.S., with no indication thus far of when a similar service might be made available in Europe or Japan. The current service offers a range of TV show and movie titles to be rented and purchased, in both standard and high definition formats. The TV shows, including the likes of Star Trek, CSI and South Park, can be kept indefinitely, while movies can be watched only for a twenty-four hour period after the first viewing, expiring completely fourteen days after the initial purchase. TV shows are priced at 160 Microsoft points ($2) for standard definition episodes and 240 points ($3) for high definition versions. Movies are priced at between 240 points ($3) and 480 points ($6), depending on the age and resolution of the movie. Although the range and number of titles so far are relatively limited Microsoft has already struck content deals with media companies such as Paramount, Warner Bros., CBS, NBC and MTV ? with similar services for the PlayStation 3 and PSP yet to be fully announcSource:e: Gamasutra

Or just once or something?
Shadrack
I wish they would give up the point system. I read somewhere that they do points so they don't have as many credit card % charges. Anyway, I like the idea...but here are my thoughts: * Everything needs to drop by about $1.50 a piece. * A subscription based service would actually be more appealing to me. * Entire seasons of a show should have a flat rate. * You should be able to re-download what you've already purchased... and there should be a screen to review all your video purchases. With ~hour long HD episodes weighing in at 2.5GB it makes the 20GB hard drive rather crowded and there is no way of backing content up. I have tried the marketplace and like it. If it were a bit cheaper I would enjoy it more.
Huleboeren
I need to know something: Are you able to watch the video's over and over again? Or just once or something? I believe you have to download it, then activate it - when its activated, you have 48hours to watch it as many times as you would like.. I think - dont take my word for it :p

AlphaPrime
I need to know something: Are you able to watch the video's over and over again? Or just once or something? From the article: The TV shows, including the likes of Star Trek, CSI and South Park, can be kept indefinitely, while movies can be watched only for a twenty-four hour period after the first viewing, expiring completely fourteen days after the initial purchase. I'd rather watch FTA TV than to pay money for each episode, especially since you can't back it up. For movies it acts more like a rental sevice. magik
I need to know something: Are you able to watch the video's over and over again? Or just once or something? As far as I can remember it, this is how it works: For Movies: You purchase the movie and then have 2 weeks to actually 'start' your rental. You 'start' your rental by playing the Movie, once you play it for the first time, you have 24 (?) hours from that point to watch it as many times as you'd like. After that 48 hours, your rental expires and you can no longer play the movie again unless you re-rent it. For TV Shows: You purchase the TV Show once and you can then play it, delete it, download it and play it as many times as you'd like. TV Shows are not rented, rather purchased, so there is no limit. Xbox Live remembers everything that you have downloaded and so you can delete a TV Show and download it again at a later date in case you need the space or something. * You should be able to re-download what you've already purchased... and there should be a screen to review all your video purchases. With ~hour long HD episodes weighing in at 2.5GB it makes the 20GB hard drive rather crowded and there is no way of backing content up.I have tried the marketplace and like it. If it were a bit cheaper I would enjoy it more. You can. Look at my reply above to NeoFlux detailing how TV Show purchases work. In fact, there is a screen that shows you ALL of your Marketplace downloads/purchases. It is in the Account Management in the Systems Blade somewhere in there. The only drawback is that it's a pretty long list (considering all the free stuff that is also listed there) and as far as I can see, it is not sortable. But hey, at least it's there and it shows how Xbox Live remembers everything that you have downloaded/purchased. Of course if it were cheaper, everyone would enjoy it more. But to be honest, it is on-par if not cheaper than currently available sources from other companies/methods.
Brandon Live Veteran Posted January 16, 2007 Veteran Share Posted January 16, 2007 Yeah you can definitely delete and re-download TV shows as much as you want. You can even download them on different Xboxes I believe, though I'm not completely sure... think it works the same as Arcade downloads and such. I remember reading the EULA somewhere and it stating that the download is bound to the original xbox360 that you downloaded from. I believe that it even mentioned that if your hardware is does not work and it is replaced (even while under warranty) your xbox live marketplace purchases will be nullified. Although, if it were associated with your XBox Live account and no association with your hardware you could download the same stuff at all your friends. It is good to see that you can re-download your purchases... how else are they going to sell those large hard drives when they come out later this year? Well I have personally downloaded a TV show at a friend's house on his Xbox 360 (to my own hard drive) using my account, and then played it just fine on my home console (so long as I'm signed in to Live). The Media Usage Rights page clearly says that you can use it from the "initiatin console" or from a "roaming console."

Right. The account that purchases the content, as long as it's signed in to any console, that console will be able to access all of the purchased content that the Live account has. Purchases are tied to your Live account, not your hardware.
5Horizons
* A subscription based service would actually be more appealing to me. I agree, in fact, I would just dump my cable service and subscribe to XBL Video.
