I'm doing some thinking around the future of "Xbox Live". I put Xbox Live in quotes only because Live will be stretching beyond the console this year with the release of Live on Windows, and we're looking at a future where multiple devices will all be able to connect into the same service. My question to you is what big features would you want to see out of Live in the future?

Imagine a world in which your account can work with different devices, each with different capabilities. Some might have a keyboard, some might not. Some might connect to your TV, some might be mobile and fit in your pocket. Some might be built from the ground up for gaming, some might have gaming as an ancillary function. The common thread across all of these devices is internet connectivity and Live, with your single login (Gamertag), your single friends list, and the ability communicate and share with those friends and the community.

What do you want to see? Think big here - ideally, think about what you want to see over a five-year period, and how your ideas evolve over that time. What's the crawl step for your idea? The walk? The run?

It's important to say that I'm just one of many people who will be working on this, and I will not be able to commit to anything being done, or even confirm that many ideas might even be considered. On top of that, you should assume that any ideas discussed publicly here are just that - public. Microsoft may use them in product ideas, and for that matter, anyone might use them. If you have some ideas that you want to keep private because you think you might do something with them yourself one day, you should not post them here.

That said, if you're ok with the above, we'd love to hear your thoughts... and remember, think big, think long-term, and think stages to get there. That's how we can get this sort of thing done.

i wrote this;

"How about weekend tournaments, starting friday night leading to the finales on sunday, you can get a place in the tournament during the week beforehand, the final rounds could then be viewed by everybody that owns the game (a la gotham tv in PGR 3) i would certainely be interested in something like this.

you wouldn't necesseraly need a price for the winner, maybe an achievement or something like that."

though i have the feeling they won't even read half of the comments. :p

I know they would probably tell me no, but "how about making the gold package... free?".

100% agree with that. Personally i dont see that if people are willing to use Xbox Live it should be free or prehaps cheaper for a 12months. I know Nintendo and Sony are doing online for free but its not in the same class as Xbox Live but some people will just not see that compared to the free online by Sony/Nintendo are offering.

I would also like TV Shows, Films and bascially more to choose from on the Xbox Live.

I quote Spartan_X in saying that the Xbox Live service would do a "360".

If you ask me, that is clear indication towards a free premium service :hmmm:

I don't think Gold should be free, besides you get what you pay for. A lot of work is put into running the service the way it is today, superior to the free crap that Sony has given us. So by all means, I don't mind paying a little sum each year for Gold.

One thing I would be nice for groups of friends or clans on Live is group private chat, so that they can talk without having to play the same game. This is very easy to implement, and I think it is a needed feature.

Id rather pay for faster download servers than a buddy system :/

Wouldn't that be a 180 ?

A year after release, all add-ons become free or half price

They already seem to drop in price after a while i.e. GRAW map pack

i have to say when i decided to get an xbox i thought noway am i paying for a gold membership, i'll just game on my pc where its free! but im sorry what a gold membership gives you is fantastic. it far surpassed my expectations. improve it? for once i cant think how something would be improved!! i liked the idea's of group chats and faster servers but i cant think of anything of my own atm. maybe live points rewards for those tournaments would be nice:)

I dont necessarily think the gold package should be free, as I like the idea of paid premium content... however I think multiplayer gaming itself should not be a premium feature... there should be something else that makes premium multiplayer stand above, like ladder rankings, voice chat, and other stuff.

I'd like to see interplatform gaming... People who play a game on the 360, PC, & PS3, should be able to play against people who play the same game on a different console.

Id like to see a more robust Feedback system (cant suggest it as the site is blocked), that focuses on expediting the ban process on cheaters and the such. It just seems that it takes too much negative feedback on a person to do any good, and by the time they are banned you have already played that person half a dozen times (mainly just an halo 2 experience)>
