Sharing files with the xbox 360

Recommended Posts

Tried using Zune to share files but I find that WMP 11 seemed easier. WMP 11 detects the 360 by asking what files and folders I should share with my 360. The problem is when I go to my 360 to get those files, I go into music for instance then click pc, but then it always fails to detect my pc.

Not sure why it would be doing this when Xbox Live/Marketplace work just fine.

If you need anymore information just ask. Thanks!

in WMP you gotta select the Xbox and then make sure it's allowed. I know you said it asked ya but select the 360, check properties and make sure it's allowed.

I did once, but I will try again anyway to see if that helps. I'll report back as soon as I can try. Thanks for the help so far!

Edit: For sure, it is on allow and my computer is not in an ICS.

This happened to me, and it was because UPnP wasn't enabled in Windows and on my router. You should check that.

I am pretty sure I know where to check UPnP on my router, but where do I check it on my computer.

Sorry about the slow replies yesterday (was sick, but I will be able to try anything suggested today faster.

Edit: UPnP is enabled on my router.

goto control panel, network connections, select your network adapter, goto properties, TCP/IP settings. Should be on that page.

I went through this just the other day. What fixed it for me was telling the Xbox 360 to add a new PC. On the screen where it says something like "failed to detect PC" there should be a button to push to add a new one. That worked for me.

Beyond that, just make sure all of your firewall ports are opened that are needed (OneCare Live, which I use, has exemptions for the Xbox 360 right into the configuration screen).

Sorry to hear that your having the same problem I had about a week ago. I had to reformat and go from a fresh install of Windows. Make sure you backup and music or picture files you want and just re-install Windows. If you decide to do my option do NOT disable any services in Windows and you should be ok. I have also found that using the Windows Firewall is alot more simpler seeing WMP automatically configures the firewall for you. Using 3rd part firewalls could cause problems seeing that WMP will not configure them and you are left to try and do that your self. Well good luck let us know if you have any luck. :)

Not seeing it in there. Thanks for the help everybody so far.

jadkins555: Trying your solution soon, I'll report back asap

NoLiMiT06: Reformatting isn't really an option, so I hope it doesn't come to that. Thanks for the suggestion anyway.

Edit: Problem solved guys. When I was at the Properties screen of my network adapter, I realized that even though I thought all firewalls were off, I saw something interesting. There was a box checked marked (driver for some pc-cillin firewall) which I unchecked and now everything is fine. Thanks!

Right click My Computer > Manage, in the new window go to Services and Applications > Services, then look for the service called Univeral Plug and Play and make sure it is started and set to automatic.
