Specialist GAME sees surge of interest for Realtime Worlds action game

Retail has noted a surge of interest in free-roaming action game Crackdown, since the announcement that the game disc will include a beta key to the multiplayer testing of Bungie's highly-anticipated shooter Halo 3.

Specialist chain GAME has told GamesIndustry.biz that pre-orders for Crackdown have risen by 25 per cent since Microsoft unveiled the initiative.

"Halo 3 is one of the most highly anticipated Xbox 360 titles for 2007 and our customers are hungry to get hold of it," commented Alex Croft, MD of GAME Group's online business.

"Halo 3 beta is a great way for gamers to actually influence the making of the game and will ensure the production of a truly amazing game," he added.

Crackdown, from developer Realtime Worlds, is due for release February 23 in Europe. Copies of the game which include the Halo 3 beta key will be housed in specially marked packaging.

I want to wait until Halo 3 is actually released before I play it at all. I wanna see how good it's going to look when it's finished. I dunno, probably just being wierd.

Anyway, it's just multiplayer, it can't be that different to Halo 2 multiplayer, especially considering the fact it's a beta.

I reckon there's gonna be a whole lotta copies of Crackdown on eBay after it's released, people are clearly gonna buy the game, use the Halo 3 beta key and then sell the game. And yes, I'm actually interested in the game, it looks good, if I can get it cheap on eBay because someone just wanted the Halo 3 beta, then all the better.

Predictable. Tell people that you will include the demo version of MGS4 with any PS3 game... even people without the PS3 will buy that game.

Maybe they'll do something like that when MGS4 comes out on the 360. ;)

Thing is, that can't happen if they want to download the game. The Crackdown DVD is the "key," or so that's how they've made it sound. When you go to download the Halo 3 beta, you need Crackdown in your DVD drive.

Still doesn't mean it couldn't happen--partly why MGS3 never happened was because of the poor sales of MGS2: Substance.

Oh my... you still don't get it. I guess I used the wrong game for what I meant.

Oh and by the way, I'm one of those people who would love a X360 release of MGS4, the online would be great with Live (though in the end I'll buy both versions, probably 'cause one of them will have extras and whatnot).

I was thinking that Crack Down looked good and was considering buying it, but ever since hearing the the Halo 3 beta code will be included in the marked packages just sweetens the deal.

Ah right, thanks for explaining.

I don't think that has been fully confirmed. I think that's what most people are guessing, however.

Oh, and in response to Crackdown pre-orders going up 25% because of Halo 3 Beta.... hmmm... didn't see that coming! :pc:

I don't understand why you'd need the disc. Why wouldn't you just need a Marketplace code, which could just be on an insert in the box?

Exactly. That's what I'm thinking it is. It's just one of those inserts with a code on there that you rip off, just like the 48-hour Live trials, etc. I don't think they would require having the Crackdown Game in the tray, but who knows. ;)
