maash
http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3156520 plus if the developer can convince MS, the filesize can increase to 450 MB
Pc_Madness
I dunno, if you really need 250mb for an arcade game, somethings not quite right. If its getting that big, perhaps they should consider releasing it on dvd instead.
Danrarbc
250 is fine, 50MB was way too low.
PL_ Veteran Posted January 19, 2007 Veteran Share Posted January 19, 2007 This looks like they're building up to announcing a 256MB memory card...

AlphaPrime
This looks like they're building up to announcing a 256MB memory card... You mean this? ;) I think increasing the limit is good, but they should just go the whole 500MB. Bring Jet Grind Radio (Dreamcast) to XBLA please. :D

The Teej
I wouldn't be surprised if some older developers started to port old N64 and PS1 games with this new size limit...
AlphaPrime
Eh, that was never officially announced by Microsoft. I know it wasn't announced, was just pointing it out though. :shiftyninja: But it made me think, a full 250MB XBLA game will not fit on a 256MB memory card, due to the actual space of the memory card being around 240MB. I wouldn't be surprised if some older developers started to port old N64 and PS1 games with this new size limit... Well they could easily port N64 games now, considering the majority of them are under 50MB in size. Edited January 19, 2007 by m.redux
Smigit
I wouldn't be surprised if some older developers started to port old N64 and PS1 games with this new size limit... Yeah, definetly the advantage of the new file sizes. Obviously for pacman you dont need it but now you have arcade games on the Unreal 3 engine and other 3d ones like Assault heros the extra space will be very handy. I would be incredibly interested to see what they do but N64 games may be a bit wishful considering how much work would likely be needed to port them (keep in mind they still have alot of XBox 1 titles they havent and will never get around to converting). Goldeneye if they could (since they own Rare) would be great.
MGS4-SS
Was this because of the Castlevania thing?
+InsaneNutter MVC Posted January 19, 2007 MVC Share Posted January 19, 2007 I think increasing the limit is good, but they should just go the whole 500MB. Your gonna fill your harddrive in no time if all arcade game start been 500mb 250 is more than enough, I?m sure with compression techniques and the processing power of the 360 an old 500mb game could be halved in size if its remade and not emulated. MightyJordan
I think this is a great idea. Bigger is better. This could mean that more XBLA games will be made, and they'll be even better. I'm starting to get tired of just seeing ports of old arcade games with the same graphics. It was good while it lasted. I wouldn't have minded if they upgraded the graphics. Also, I agree that Worms will take advantage of this. I also hope that they start bringing old PS1 games to the XBLA. Bring on MGS!

Bigger HDD maybe? Also, it would still only be a quarter of the size of a TV show. And besides, not all games need to use the full space. Certainly 2D games and basic 3D games would be much smaller than that. There are some large/multi-disc games on PS1/Dreamcast that would be difficult to squeeze into 250MB. Hopefully Microsoft is willing to be lenient with the 450MB.
FreqFace
Why are people saying the PS1 games will be ported to XBLA? Surely all the rights are held by Sony there? And MGS on XBLA? When hell freezes over, then we might see it on there.
