5Horizons
It sucks that they won't send you a box anymore, but I really feel bad for the support people that have to deal with this. I could understand if the guy on the phone was being an ###### to the customer but he was just doing his job. Don't get me wrong, it's funny, but it seems like everyone wants to make a scene whenever they have to deal with support personnel these days. Ayepecks
Lighten up dude. Here, I will spell out the point behind all of this:Microsoft changed their policy in not providing a box to people who have problems with their console. The new policy is that the user has to send the console in themselves (providing their own box) and Microsoft will repair (or send out a new console) in the box provided. So, in an attempt to show Microsoft how (arguably) unfair this new policy is, this person is going to send a very expensive box for Microsoft to ship back; so, ironically, Microsoft would have saved money had they provided their own box for a few dollars of their own expense. Think of it as a satirical act. Get it?  I knew all of that to begin with, so please don't patronize me. It's not funny knowing Microsoft's policy, it's not funny not knowing Microsoft's policy. What is so ironic about how large the box is going to be? Newsflash: cardboard is extremely light. This person would have to create the largest box in the history of ever to put Microsoft back any. And, chances are, if they were able to send a box that big, the post office would not accept it. If the guy adds weight by putting crap in it, Microsoft will just take it out. I don't get why you think this is so utterly hilarious. It's stupid. It makes no sense what-so-ever. The guy is bitching and moaning about having to pay $1 or less for a freaking cardboard box and threw a hissy fit over the issue. Sending them a big box is supposed to be funny? I'm sorry, I have a sense of humor, but I also have a brain. And my brain tells me this person's sense of comedy sucks. I understand people feel like he's "sticking it to the man," but the whole concept is just so utterly stupid it's not even funny.
Meshuggah
you know what i think is stupid? having a 360 under warranty die on you, and you having to pay shipping to microsoft because it died on you. I had two of them die on me before this policy changed, and I'll be damned if I have to spend money shipping it to them because they had a flaw. Personally, I think MS should pay for it, but I'm sure they changed this because they have so many being sent to them.

I work with customers on a daily basis too and this didn't have me laughing. Probably because it's really immature (IMO), and won't accomplish anything. :(

Yeah, as I was reading I must admit that I kept thinking "Man, this guy is an ass." I guess if anything is funny about it is that he really thinks he's making a difference. :/ you know what i think is stupid? having a 360 under warranty die on you, and you having to pay shipping to microsoft because it died on you.I had two of them die on me before this policy changed, and I'll be damned if I have to spend money shipping it to them because they had a flaw. Personally, I think MS should pay for it, but I'm sure they changed this because they have so many being sent to them. The issue is that any company only has to provide enough service to remain profitable. If better service means more profit, then they'll do it. If better service means less profit (maybe the cost isn't covering the increase in sales) then they'll stop. You can always vote with your wallet and never buy a Microsoft product again. Of course, if you're in the minority it won't change a thing and you'll have to put up with it if you want what they have. It's what seems to be happening with the PS3. Eventually, if enough people vote with their wallets, they will change somehow. They may lower the price, they may buy studios to develop games so people will want the console, etc.

Obviously it would need some sort of metal frame (as is outlined on the site). Do you really think the post office prices their shipments based on weight alone? They take weight, size and destination all into consideration for pricing shipments. Do you really think the post office is the only means of shipping something? There is UPS, FedEx and DHL that will ship whatever to wherever no matter the size, if the price is right. Are you really that naive? Apparently. He's not necessarily 'sticking it to the man,' he's attempting his own modern day Jonathan Swift.... or not... it doesn't matter.... it's a big joke (or a hoax for all we know). If you actually read the website, he's tying to send one of these to Microsoft. Yeah, I bet you knew that to begin with. DELTETHISACCOUNT
^ Yeah, it's so corny lol :D Just incase: The mission is simple; to raise enough money through donations to send the largest box possible... a shipping container. I want a 40 foot solid steel shipping container with nothing in it but my poor little xbox 360. Although, if I get enough donations, I intend on taking the box on tour across major metropolitan areas, picking up every broken xbox 360. It's a box they want, it's a box they'll get... it just might be a tad bigger than expected. Donate by filling the box. Press the 'X' in the middle of the glowing green. With every dollar the box gets bigger. Let's make this so large it's undeniable.

Why are you so uptight about all this? I'm being "uptight" about it? Well that's news to me! Here all this time I just thought it was a stupid prank that wasn't funny. Even still, with it being a shipping container, it is not funny. It is a man making things harder than they need to be. And you know what's the funniest part of all? Microsoft doesn't even have to send it back in that. They can tell him to come there and pick it up because they changed their policy. Now that would be funny to me. Some grown man whining and bitching about having to spend $2 (which he has already spent more than that on creating the website -- now that is the definition of ironic) being a jerk to people who have no influence what-so-ever on the policy. I fail to see how this is anything remotely similar to Swift. How can you honestly compare the two? I await your next post riddled with insults and childish responses, as per all of your post towards me.

You don't get far in life by being goody goody and letting things slide all the time just because it's easier to do so. Granted this isn't going to make much difference in the grand scheme of his life, it's still the same concept. What I don't understand is how you think that MS sticking it to him would be funny, but him sticking it to MS isn't funny. That seems somewhat hypocritical. I mean, I can understand thinking what he's doing is stupid, and I think it is too (though I do think it's also pretty funny - more power to him if he goes through with it), but you can't turn around and say a different situation is funny when this one isn't if all that's changed are the people in each position. And I could probably tell you why you get the responses you do, but if you don't already know, it probably won't help the cause for me to do so. -Spenser

Absolutely you can. He thinks he's being all clever and such and, though I realize Ayepecks and I are in the minority, yet he comes off as whiney. Yet if the tables are turned on him and turns out he's not as clever as he thought, that makes it funny. That's what comedy is all about. One way is not funny but all of a sudden you turn the tables on someone and it's funny.

I never said Microsoft "sticking it to him" would be funny -- I implied it would be funny because he's spent all this time trying to be a pain in the ass to Microsoft, and all they have to do is ask him to pick it up and tell him they changed their policy. That's not "sticking it to him", that's just foiling his plan. And if you ask why I would find that funny, it's because his entire plan to be a prick would fail. I don't see how that is hypocritcal at all. In fact, it's sticking with everything I've said in this thread. I don't care why I got the responses I did. I gave my thoughts on the topic (last time I checked that wasn't against the rules) and magik proceeded to resort to his usual comments towards me. I never insulted anyone in this thread who thought it was funny, I just said I thought it was stupid.
