[HDTV] Looking for a receiver

Recommended Posts

Kraftman    1

I just bought a new HDTV (sorry bangbang023, a TH50PX6U) and I am looking for a reciever for use with it.

Currently, I have some Sony one which has many different RCA inputs (Video 1, Video 2, DVD, etc). Obviously, this will not cut for my 360 and if/when I get an Apple TV [because of HDTV]

I have zero knowledge in this area. I don't even know a *rough* estimate for how much one would cost.

Requires:

Inputs

HDMI

Component x 2, better if more

RCA x 2, better if more

Outputs

At least 5.1 speakers

Either component or HDMI, HDMI would be better

Pioneer VSX-1016 ($500) or Yamaha HTR-6090 ($1,000) are good choices. Denon and Onkyo may also have some starting range set ups that would fit the bill, but my lack of hands on experience with them prevents me from recommending a specific model.

If you opt for the Pioneer, you may want to wait for a bit. They are releasing their 17 series soon which will feature a few more bells and whistles and may be more appealing.

The Pioneer looks nice for ~$700 CAD.

Do you have any idea at all where I could get that?

BB and FS .ca do *not* have it. Or else my search skills are highly lacking (always a possibility)

What a rip @ $700 CAD. You might want to go to the US and buy it at BestBuy for $500 USD ($587 CAD).

Apparently, the manufacturers *conveniently* forgot about the exchange rate now and 10 years ago
