Spartan_X
You guys are in for big let down when you get to d/l the MP beta of Halo 3 and it sucks donkey balls? I mean, don't get me wrong as the game is in a really good shape at its current state but I can tell you that about 90% of the people posting on this thread will curse everybody?s mom at Bungie/MGS forever when they get to play the beta for the first time and it?s not the all mighty hyper super duper arch mega supercalifragilistic expialidocious killer app you?re portrayin:unsure::u:pinch: :pinch: The MP is a work in progress and many of the ?cool features? won?t even show up during the beta stage and will only make it into the final release of the game, so, be advice that expecting less is a good thing to keep in mind as you?ll be playing on a controlled environment that may impact how the engine of the game behaves at certa:blush:a:yes:.  Just a fri:happy:eminder.
halcyoncmdr
Well, I know that, not sure about the rest of these people... :p Having tested many things in the past, including games, the experience is completely controlled, but it will still be fun :). Besides, you can still say you beta tested it :D
Spartan_X
Well, I know that, not sure about the rest of these people... :pHaving tested many things in the past, including games, the experience is completely controlled, but it will still be fun :). Besides, you can still say you beta tested it :D That's is correct and that's why I rather be the first to comment on the issues before everybody else gets their paws on the game?s code and start bitching a whining about how much it sucks. We know what and where most of the ?random features? will show up but as the old saying goes ?the more the merrier?. So, before we get a full scale attack from the "SDF" gang and **** starts hitting the fan I?m trying to make sure we all get the right idea of what to expect from the beta. :haEdit:Edit: take a look at what:laugh:d.:rofl:ug:p  :p http://ps3.qj.net/uploads/articles_module/...qjpreviewth.jpg Edited January 24, 2007 by Spartan_X

I really have to question that out of the how people that want to participate so badly, like for example those willing to buy a $60 game just to do so, if they even know what to truly expect and/or have ever participated in a Beta before. What I mean is the majority of people wanting to play this seem to not quite understand it is only a Beta. As a result they are almost undoubtedly going to be extremely let down, almost primarily due to their high expectations. just going on history, since they are releasing this Beta so, so many months in advance of an actual release, you can almost guarantee just on that fact, it is going to be rough to say the very least. Rarely does a Beta reflect the final product, and the whole point of it is to help the developer make it better. I personally cannot help but think Bungie is perhaps making a huge mistake by doing this, as I can only imagine 5-10% of the people who will be playing it actually will and want to contribute to the process of making it a better product. The rest just want to play Halo 3 first, and are just going to inevitably complain how it was a let down. So although I understand Bungie's thought process, trying to make the community part of it all, I cannot help but think those some people they are trying to please are going to be those same exact people that will potentially make this Beta a huge mistake. Just my .02 cents on it all. Bottom line is take Spartan_X's words to heart, and do not expect anything other than a Beta.
P!P
I've gone back and fourth on entering the beta. I can't have a 360 currently but am getting one soon. I decided not to play the beta. First off, the graphics and gameplay are apt to change a lot. I want to play Halo 3 for the first time in all it's glory. Not a stripped down, beta version. I can't wait for November! Brandon Live Veteran Posted January 24, 2007 Veteran Share Posted January 24, 2007 No one should judge any software based on pre-release versions. Even if said pre-release version is incredibly addictive.
sweetham
I remember when I got the Xbox Live Beta pacakage in the mail for the original xbox. I took a look at the 3 demos that came with it (Moto GP, Whacked, and some football game). I quickly installed XBL and threw in Whacked. Game came on and there was only like 2 or 3 maps to play and like 2 gamemodes. I did a quickmatch and started playing. I remember being instantly addicted to the online atmosphere that Microsoft was creating before me. Not to mention that whacked was surprising fun and after a few games I started to actually become at the game. Afterthat I didnt care about having only 3 maps, I didnt care about 2 gamemodes, I didnt care about not having all the live features. I only cared about the online experience that I was recieving. Those are still some of the best memories I have about the live community, and some of the best fun I have ever had on xbl. For me its more of seeing what halo 3 can bring to those experiences, the fact that I have to be an avid halo nut and enjoy both games wholeheartedly is just details. gigapixels Veteran Posted January 24, 2007 Author Veteran Share Posted January 24, 2007 I'm not looking for an amazing game to play... I actually wanted in to beta test it. That was the only reason I signed up. Sure, it's Halo 3, but I know well enough that a beta is definitely not going to have all the features you expect, and it's probably going to disappoint in some aspects. I just want to help out... I've never been in a beta test TBH, so this is going to be fun for me. One thing I'll also enjoy is no ###### playing... Because a) if they already have complaints, they're not getting in and b) if they get a complaint while beta testing, they'll sure as hell be thrown out. So we'll have a bunch of cool people playing, rather than those 10 year olds on Gears that talk more trash than a dumpster could hold.

Ayepecks
I've done a ton of PC game betas, and to say they sucked "donkey balls" is a vast overstatement. I know you're not saying that, Spartan, but you understand what I mean. Betas are extremely buggy, very true, but they're still playable and fun normally. I would be absolutely amazed if the beta "sucked donkey balls", personally. I don't care if I get in or not because I wouldn't be able to play it a ton, but while people should be aware it's not something that's going to be anywhere as near as good as the finished product, you shouldn't try and scare them off. Just IMO.

Xerxes
Can I still apply? I changed my mind and want it now lol so where do I sign up? Or is it finished? I dunno if you can, but it probably not worth it even if you could. Don't forget MS/Bungie are only allowing 10 Australians to participate in this beta so chances are extremely slim of getting in at best sadly :( To the Aussies that do get in, give 'em hell ;) :)

America gets everything because they are one of the biggest markets, Europe is around the same size (if not bigger) then NA, but as to why they get treated like 2nd class is beyond me (probably cause of the EU :p)
