Brandon
Well I've been doing this for awhile - installing media connect on my XP Pro SP2 PC, then hooking up my 360 to that. Sometimes it works perfectly, other times, like right now -with no network activity - nothing works. Like a song will freeze up in 10 seconds, videos will be really studdery, etc sometimes pushing guide and returning back to the dashboard (which it still is as it really is just hte music player) will unfreeze the system other uhh unrelated thing. My powered subwoofer (and is shielded) is turning my CRT a purpleish tint in the lower left... only when my 360 is selected... with my original xbox and TV i dont see it
Skiver Veteran Posted January 24, 2007 Veteran Share Posted January 24, 2007 ive never used the media connect software, i just enabled sharing through WMP11, i also had to add some ports i believe, try doing it this way? sorry cant remember where i got the info from for doing all this...most likly the xbox website
Mando
have you tried TVersity? I use it to transcode DIVX and other nonsupported formats & stream them to 360 in realtime ;). I also get web tv thru its proxy too :woot: as well as everything that WMP11/MC does http://www.tversity.com/home i find it better than media connect and WMP11 sharing and doesnt kill my pc gaming like WMP sharing does with its services ;) Edited January 24, 2007 by Mando
Skiver Veteran Posted January 24, 2007 Veteran Share Posted January 24, 2007 wow this looks like a nice application, is it easy to use and setup? i have a habbit of taking the simplist of things and making them go all kinda of wrong :p
Mando
wow this looks like a nice application, is it easy to use and setup? i have a habbit of taking the simplist of things and making them go all kinda of wrong :p piece of cake bud (granted im a techie but i didnt need to open any ports or change anything to config it). Just make sure the tversity service is running after install, if not reboot. You can also use it with a myriad of other upnp media devices including your mobile phone & other pcs :) Due to it running as a web page to other pcs it will be accessible on any Os (W95,98,2k,XP,Vista,linux and i suppose a Mac too) and any device that has internet/browser capability. Heck you can even get it to access media/content from youtube, and such things with it acting like a proxy. I have a NAS box of sorts running linux and due to the drives being shared on my desktop i can access them via TVeristy :p how cool is that!!! the FAQ and forums are very helpful and anything you have trouble with check them out. ;) it will show up in the same place as the wmp sharing does on the 360 ;) a pc of around the same power as a p4 3ghz (what i have) will manage on the fly transcoding of DIVX,MOV,MP4 etc to wmv to stream to 360 easily in realtime. HD quality requires a Dual Core CPU. Heck you can even take the .css page from the browser and jazz it up for yourself :) (can you tell i love it!!) Play Internet audio, image and video streams and RSS/RDF/ATOM feeds and podcasts on your TV, Stereo and other connected devices The media server streams media from the Internet and delivers it to connected devices via HTTP, the only protocol supported by those devices The only truly universal media server (including support for both the Sony PSP and the Xbox 360) Use the same server for home and mobile networked devices (with multimedia capabilities) whether they support UPnP AV / DLNA or just have a web browser or an RSS/Podcast Reader Enter your own Internet URLs or select from the bundled Audio and Video Guides The media server is bundled with hundreds of TV stations from all over the world and thousands of radio stations Play your ENTIRE media collection on your connected devices Finally almost any content that plays in Windows Media Player can be played on any of the supported devices disregarding their codec limitations Automatic Real-time Seemless Transcoding Let the Media Server automatically detect when a given media needs to be transcoded for playback on your media player Very fast browsing of your media library with unprecedented speed for huge libraries (up to 100,000 items and more) The Media Server has a very short response time, allowing faster browsing of your media library Advanced searching and smart playlists The Media Server supports keyword searching as well as advanced search experssions and allows search results to be saved as playlists Easy to use Graphical User Interface Control the media server locally or remotely by running the GUI as a web application (both MSIE and Firefox are supported) Support multiple devices simultaneously Connect every room with a TV and other connected devices you own to the same media server Share media with friends and family via RSS Synchronize your media library with remote installaions of TVersity or with remote Podcast managers like iTunes Support for all leading tagging formats and then some ID3v1, ID3v2, Ogg Vorbis comments in Ogg, FLAC, and MPC/Ape, iTunes AAC tags, MPEG4 tags, ASF tags (WMA, WMV, DVR-MS) Intuitive Navigation Finally a media server that organizes your media properly, maintaining the order of songs, supporting extensive navigation criteria and doing it all very fast Manage cache of transcoded media No need to transcode the same media twice Pause Live Internet feeds just like with Tivo Watching live Internet TV and listening to live radio stations have never been so much fun Runs as a service You no longer need to log on to your computer for the media server to start Works well on slow system while providing real benefits on faster ones Transcode Internet videos (300 kbps) on very slow systems and downsample high definition videos to standard definition on fast ones the videos work in exactly the same way :) Edited January 24, 2007 by Mando

Mando
I have this problem as well. I get this tint in the top left of my screen. It goes after a while, but it really bugs me. Anyone know what the problem is? discolouration of VDUs is usually caused by 3 things. Either the subwoofers shielding isnt up to scratch or the monitors tube is aging. the third can be caused by magnetic fields. Tbh having big magnets (like in a sub or speakers in general) isnt generally a good idea, if poss move it further away and see if that improves it. Mando
due to the way its been created and stuff viewing your media on your lan on any device is possible via web browser or unpnp and all the other media sharing protocols. Was reading in the forum today you can even map it via your router so you can access your media from an external source in a slingbox kind of way :) I cant recommend it enough tbh :) if media player can view the file then tversity can stream it (when you install codecs) It can be accessed via web browser with http://localhost:41952/ (http://markspc:41952) My mate had his psp with him last week and it could access everything. ok thats enough of me hyping up, a) im not associated with it and b) really go try it! it is as good as it seems and its OPEN SOURCE :D MS if your listening this is how it SHOULD be done! Fabian-
I tried it last night, my 360 can connect to the TVersity server and I can see all the files, I can stream WMV just fine, but with DivX when I select the video, the 360 just sits there for like 2-3 minutes and then it says that it lost connection to my computer :pinch:
ynnoj
I set up TVersity over the weekend, streaming media from my system downstairs to the 360 in my bedroom. The connection between the the PC and the 360 is fine, however I am having difficulty adding some media to my library. When I am adding my video files (XviD) only a few of them are being fully added, where as some are only showing up as a minute in length, when it should be 42 or 43. Sorry to bump the thread.
