eaglebtc
Check out this article on MSNBC about the rising trend of teenagers who are just saying "no" to sex. - brad Choosing Virginity A New Attitude: Fewer teenagers are having sex. As parents and politicians debate the merits of abstinence programs, here?s what the kids have to say By Lorraine Ali and Julie Scelfo NEWSWEEK Dec. 9 issue ? There?s a sexual revolution going on in America, and believe it or not, it has nothing to do with Christina Aguilera?s bare-it-all video ?Dirrty.? The uprising is taking place in the real world, not on ?The Real World.? VISIT ANY AMERICAN high school and you?ll likely find a growing number of students who watch scabrous TV shows like ?Shipmates,? listen to Eminem?and have decided to remain chaste until marriage. Rejecting the get-down-make-love ethos of their parents? generation, this wave of young adults represents a new counterculture, one clearly at odds with the mainstream media and their routine use of sex to boost ratings and peddle product. According to a recent study from the Centers for Disease Control, the number of high-school students who say they?ve never had sexual intercourse rose by almost 10 percent between 1991 and 2001. Parents, public-health officials and sexually beleaguered teens themselves may be relieved by this ?let?s not? trend. But the new abstinence movement, largely fostered by cultural conservatives and evangelical Christians, has also become hotly controversial. LINK: MSNBC: Choosing Virginity? drewster2100
Hopefully it will lower the teenage pregnancy rate. I dont think anything is wrong with sex, protection needs to be used though, unless your old enough and want a child.
intensityx
 I'd like to see who they are polling on this... I think a lot of kids lie about this stuff because they don't want their parents to find out about what they are doing.

Justin03248
They had a report like this 2 years ago... It's just propaganda to make other teens think twice. Statistically, it hasn't gone down much in the past 3-4 years. It has gone down a lot in the past 8-10 years though.

liar2
I just lost my virginity about a month ago. There is nothing wrong with not having sex. Honestly, I think I was happier knowing I was a virgin. But it is a nice feeling laying next to somebody that you know really cares about you. QuarterSwede
I am waiting till marriage. I figure that I have something others don't and like knowing I know how to control myself, although it isn't easy. It makes me a stronger person not to give in. Good thing I will be engaged shortly and marriage isn't far off. :D Good luck to all of you who are waiting. You can do it!
AGMW
It's about time the media reported some good news like this. I just hope it is true. Kids may finally be getting the message, especially after the way that scumbag president (now former president) Clinton screwed (no pun intended) the efforts of many trying to get that message out. I am not afraid to admit that I am a virgin and hope that my soul and will are strong enough to keep it for my future wife.
Miran
I am waiting till marriage. I figure that I have something others don't and like knowing I know how to control myself, although it isn't easy. It makes me a stronger person not to give in. Good thing I will be engaged shortly and marriage isn't far off. ?Good luck to all of you who are waiting. You can do it! You talk like virginity can actually be manifested in a physical sense. Virginity is a social phenomenon - it is not a REAL quality you can ascribe yourself as having. If you don't have sex, that is your choice - but just know that it really DOESN'T make you a stronger person - at least in regards to evolution. In fact it decreases your chances of spreading your genes - which is really the only reason we are here. Now that doesn't mean I want to go out and have a bunch of kids, but don't mock people who believe that sex is natural (which it is) and healthy (which it is). Personally I would HATE to have sex with a person only after I married them... I mean hell, what if they suck? I can't imagine a wedding night where 2 virgins have sex for the first time.. 1) OUCH for the girl - since the first time for most girls hurts like hell, and 2) how bloody fricking awkward.. And God schmod, you know Jebus was getting his groove on in the 18 missing years.. lol. :DD Edit: And referring to Clinton as a "Scumbag president" is basically saying "I prefer an idiotic, childish, war-hungry, power-hungry, anti-peace, anti-environment, anti-diplomacy, anti-democracy president then a smart, educated, culture-concious president who has a healthy sex-drive." Miran
Oh and also, most people who are interesting, dynamic, and full of life as adults.... Were sluts when they were young - and have no regrets (ya ya, tell me I'll burn in hell... BLAHH BLAH..).. Oh and one more thing.. I personally believe that "saving yourself" for your wife.. Is kind of like saving yourself for the women you will eventually cheat on your wife with, since you'll always wonder.. "Could it be better with someone else?" Get it out of your system (excuse the pun) while your young..
axis
Yea ok at the same time they say no to actual intercourse, they say yes to oral sex. Stimming from the fact that you can't get pregnant from oral sex, that is what scares them most. But then those wonderful STD's still pass through, like my favorite that they reported... gonarea of the throat. Doctors get teenagers coming in all the time with kids thinking they have strep throat or just a common sore throat, haha, what a suprise doctors visit. This is just another way that the media manipulates and tells you how things are better when in fact they are just as bad. Kids in jr high and even grade school have parties just for the oral sex, I mean come on people, are you that gulable and blind to the fact. This is all recent too, because I am 21 and we didn't have those parties, just make out sessions. Guys get props for going down and girls get called sluts, hmm, seems about right to me. Once again, don't believe the hype, sex in this country is getting younger and younger. Blame Britney Spears, her whorish dressing (which I love) is causing little preteen girls to dress like her, the boys see it and peer pressure is a bitch, end of story. Plus some people should just not be allowed to breed, ignorance breeds ignorance. The people who seem to abstane the most are religeous, church-goers. They need sex the most, maybe it will knock some sense into them. If you don't have sex then you might build that up and end up doing something bad, ie: priests. Someone make an edit in the line that says they need to stay celebet, I don't want to fear some man of 'god' touching my child in church, which my children will never be allowed to be in. Do what you want, not what your parents or a myth says, but be responsible. That is all it comes down to, if you are responsible and smart about it, you will most likely be fine. I'm 15, I have never felt pressured to have sex, oral or whatever. All Britney's ever done is help my hand out. As for these parties, I have to say I guess I've been missing out. I'm a virgin, I'm not waiting for marriage since that doesn't really mean much to me (you're the same when you get on the alter as when you get off, you just got an old guy to say you're together) I'm just waiting. Fotix
Before this thread is sent into off-topic hell, I think it's good if kids are at least thinking before acting. Using someone just to get off brings with it many social consequences and pain to people. We know this and if at least young people put some thought into what they do or why they do it, the better. Well said!! There isn't another modernized country on earth who would vote in Bush.. except maybe France. Back to the topic.. I just wanted to clarify that I don't believe kids should be going around banging whoever walks by, and having sex parties.. I don't think that an utter disregard for your body in terms of STDs and pregnancy is healthy sex AT ALL. I believe that sex is healthy and normal under healthy and normal conditions - such as a good open relationship, or hell even with a long-time friend when you've both had a wee bit much to drink on New Years.. lol.. AGMW
I see people are already jumping to conclusions, and as Fotix stated, sending this off into "off-topic hell." So I will do what I can to dispel these conclusions that have been made about my quote. By saying that Clinton was a scumbag is based on his infidelity, not just because I am conservative! What the media won't report is that in the wake of his actions, surveys of school-aged children indicated that these children were constantly engaging in oral sex. As a matter of fact, they also cited Clinton's famous line of "oral sex isn't sex" to support their actions. Please!!! Next time do not jump to conclusions or criticize someone as soon as you do not like or agree with their beliefs/views!!!
