+Mystic MVC Posted January 26, 2007 MVC Share Posted January 26, 2007 Sorry, been so busy/active with the Xbox 360 lately, and I have started re-using Neowin because of the extremely active community. Since my tv downstairs isn't an hdtv, and I would like to view Gears of War in the best quality, I had an idea. Everybody has always been talking about VGA cables and using them to connect your 360 to your pc monitor if you have a nice one. I just recently got a http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/product...mp;sku=320-4568. I hear, if I can go into 1280x1024 resolution, I can go at least 720p with it. Is that correct? If I did get that cable, nothing would depend on my pc would it? It would all be going through the monitor right? Just wondering because I am running a rather old computer (under 1ghz in cpu with a 128mb graphics card) at least this computer in my room I mean. Finally, for the price depending on the cable, is it really that noticeable just going to 720p on a 19inch monitor than a 53inch rear projection, sdtv tv (the one I currently use). Thanks! bangbang023 Veteran Posted January 26, 2007 Veteran Share Posted January 26, 2007 Yeah, just run the VGA cable right to the monitor and switch inputs (assuming you're using DVI from your PC) when needed.
Trong
It definatly will be noticable. Although, you are shrinking the screen 30+ inches. :p You'll start noticing that you can see a lot more things in the background, such as someone's head just barely popping out from behind cover. planetik
I have that exact monitor. Do what bangbang said. If you have your computer connected through DVI, You can connect the cable through VGA and just press the input selection button to swap the inputs. (Y) Oh and yes, the cable has nothing to do with your (crappy) computer. But this computer probably uses VGA connection then? That will probably mean you have to swap the cables physically when you want to play 360 or use your computer
+Mystic MVC Posted January 26, 2007 Author MVC Share Posted January 26, 2007 Wow, thanks for all the great replies so far. I am finally understanding this a bit now. Yes, I forgot to mention I already use a VGA cable since this computer is older. So planetik your saying I should get another? I am still confused about how the 360 works with the VGA cable. Normally there is the 3 prong connector, but I am not seeing how a VGA cable will match up with that 3 prong plugin once I take the 3prong out of the 360. For those of you that already have this setup, can anybody recommend specific cables (that they use/like) from a site like Newegg? Thanks!
+dnast Subscriber² Posted January 27, 2007 Subscriber² Share Posted January 27, 2007 If you want to use Newegg (I like them, too), then here's the link. I would recommend using a KVM switch or just a regular VGA switch so you don't have to keep physically switching cables.
