The_Decryptor Veteran Posted February 5, 2007 Veteran Share Posted February 5, 2007 My computer is by new means l33t, but it's decent, I have 1 GB of RAM and a 3Ghz pentium 4 and it uses near 100% processor scrolling a page....Opera has very low cpu and memory usage, give it a try. That's not right at all, i have a 1.86Ghz CPU (Core 2 Duo) and it takes around 2% or less (it takes a bit more when you start scrolling a page with effects)
jp10558
Did anyone mention Dillo yet? I'm an Opera lover, but it's not guaranteed to be extremely low resource useage. But it is one of the few explicitly lowis resource use full featured browsers, maybe the only one on Windows. Dillo etc all drop lots of newer web technologies to get to be such low resource use. nilsHaus
In my experience IE 6 has been the best for me. I've been using Opera lately though because I'm hooked on tabs. Try filehippo.com they might have old versions of IE.

Vettetech
You can use Fasterfox plugin. Move your page file to a second drive. Also what virus scan or spyware scan are you running in real time mode. I have AVG and it takes up no memory. I was using Spy Sweeper for a real time scanner but then I realized it was slowing things down too much. SO I uninstall it. You really dont need a real time spyware scanner anyways. acies
Firefox 2 works near perfectly for me, the only problem is start up can be a tad long sometimes. I found Opera didn't work for me.. theres too much in it  . IE7 is good, but i found alot of lag in the interface, specially when changing tabs or openeing new ones. way2quik
i don't like FF cuz it keeps freezing everytime i log onto my universities webct. i dont like ie7 cuz when you leave it on standby and come back after an hour or so, it takes a while for it to load everything back to normal, same for FF. maybe its my ram.. hahaha.. 512 just isnt enough. opera is good, but everytime i download soemthing in chinese, it doesnt show up in chinese but in squares...etc.
halcyoncmdr
If a language is is squares its beacuse you don't have the language pack installed. I know in my Opera I can load all of the languages, but I use the MSI installer and I have the Aspell dictionary installed as well... so I'm not sure which it is, but I never have any problems. My only guess for that is that maybe you don't have the language pack installed into Windows... other than that I have no clue about that one. :(

Aspell is for spell check, not for unicode/international text display. the square blocks just means you don't have a font that contains the needed characters, which is getting less and less likely these days.
