Firefox and error message when accessing Cisco VPN

Just for kicks, did you try what it said by adding index.html or other index files that are commonly used. I think one of my older routers would do this and it was a linksys.

Another thing to try, do you have javascript enabled. My router requires it to work right.

Sorry if these are something you would already have tried, but I just thought I would toss them out there for you.

Like instead of http://192.168.1.1/ (example IP) you put http://192.168.1.1/index.html or http://192.168.1.1/index.htm

Like it says to try in the screenshot you posted. However, I just tried this here on my router and this gives 404 (not found) error. So I guess that was bad advice. Sorry

In version 2 and up IIRC Tools/Options/content/ then it says "Enable Javascript" put a check in that box by it. Or if you use the extension NoScript you'll have to allow that IP address to run scripts.

ok, another thought I had. I'm no expert I'm just posting thoughts that 'I' think might help. Hopefully someone with more knowledge will pick up on this.

What about pipelining or max connection settings? Could it be triggering this by trying to have to many connections to your router and thus making it think it's being overloaded? Just a thought. I'm more less guessing here, but sometimes you get lucky.

What if any extensions do you have? Have your tried safe mod?

When I said safe mode.. I didn't mean safe mode for Windows. I meant for the browser itself. Should be under your Firefox directory under the start menu. "Mozilla Firefox (Safe mode)" That will run Firefox without loading the extra stuff.

Thanks IceDogg

The same thread had been posted to Mozilla website while agao , but i could not get help there,,,i am grateful to this effort

Last thing I know to try is Creating a new profile

Yes, it woked. Great

Does that mean I have to keep these two profiles ? one to access the internet, and other to access the cisco devices ? Or can I copy the same settings from existing profile to new profile ?

Regards

No what that means is there is a setting in your regular profile that is interfering with your router. Safe mode should disable all themes and extensions and it still didn't work for you, you said, so that would mean you can rule out extensions and themes. It's a setting that you changed at some point in Firefox that is causing this. Most likely pipelining or max connection settings.. as I ask you about earlier in this thread. When you didn't know what they was I assumed that to mean you hadn't changed them.

In the URL bar type about:config.. in the search field type network. Look for the following:

network.http.max-connections

network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-proxy

network.http.max-connections-per-server

network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server

network.http.pipelining

network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

network.http.proxy.pipelining

Those are used to speed up Firefox browsing (debatable) and could be your problem. If any are bold try resetting them. You might want to copy your prefs.js in your profile first so you can add them back by replacing the prefs.js with the one you backed up after you get your router working...but that will break it again.. just so you know.

Let me know if you need more help.

I don't know what to make of your screenshot.. there is a bunch of user changed settings, but they don't show up as bold and they show they are set at default, which THEY ARE NOT. Anyway those settings are the reason for your troubles (I'm pretty sure) and they are numerous ones. The ones I listed above have all been changed from the defaults in your screenshot, but are not bold (and say they are default, again they are NOT), but yet the bold is working as it shows one entry is bold (and says user set, as it should). I'm thinking something is very wrong somehow(corrupt profiles, malware infection, or someone is playing games with you, or maybe a custom build of Firefox?) or your pulling my chain. For example..network.http.max-connections default is 24.. your screenshot says 48 (and says it's default, which again it's not) that means it should be in bold (saying user set) because SOMEONE HAS CHANGED IT. So, something is very strange or your pulling my chain. either way I can't help you further.. You can either use the separate profile just for your firewall or reset those settings I mentioned back to defaults. Which may or may not work.
