Tech Star
I just bought my 360 and I need to know...whats the point of a 360 when you can play all the games (most) on a PC? Like GoW Is going to PC from a interview I read on GI....anyone help me?
planetik
I believe the original "point" of buying a console was because getting an expensive computer wasn't everyone's forte. Not to mention they're great for parties.
5Horizons
Personally, since getting a 360, I've spent even more money on gaming than I used to with a PC because games are so expensive. I'd still say it has benefits. You don't have to worry about updating drivers, making sure no other "big" programs are running while you game, there are no hardware upgrades, (and graphics still get better as the system is better utilized) and most of all XBOX Live is pretty awesome in my opinion. But hey, if you like your PC better, stick with it :)
magik
Because console gaming is inherently easier to play than PC gaming. No worrying about drivers, patches are all automated, Xbox Live makes multiplayer gaming a couple button presses away. Basically, everything is just literally plug-and-play on a console, no worrying about much of anything really. Oh, and of course: Halo 3. :p
Tech Star
Good point's but as I was watching the Windows Vista launch I saw Live on Vista with Uno etc. + I heard GoW is going to the PC....if all the games are going to the PC why would you need something like the 360 to do the same thing for me? Don't get me wrong guys. I LOVE my 360! Halo 2 on it is *drools*. I just need to know the facts.
Rodrigo
Well, unless you have a high-end PC you won't see GoW like you see it on the 360. Besides, every game you play will run smoothly and have the highest graphic quality (the way the games were meant to be played) in the 360. And not to say that every game that comes out for the 360 (be it tomorrow or in two years) will run fine without the need to upgrade your hardware. When did Halo 2 come to the Xbox? 2004? It's 2007 and it's not out on the PC yet. So I wouldn't wait for GoW to come for the PC anytime soon. :)
neoadorable
heh heh tech star you hit it on the head! i agree with you that the PC and 360 are essentially one and the same. it's probably an experiment, MS trying to figure out a future gaming platform to combine both. however, what people above said is also all true. sure, the 360 is a nicely-marketed shuttle PC running software available on the mainstream format, but it has tons of features previously unheard of and is generally much better regulated and implemented than the often haphazard PC market. DirtyLarry Veteran Posted January 30, 2007 Veteran Share Posted January 30, 2007 Ease Of Use It really is as simple as that. Without going into detail about the upgrades you will more than likely need to make to your PC to get it to run Gears Of War when it does finally come out, all I will say to to get it at a comparable frame rate and with the eye candy it has on the 360, chances are at the very least you would probably need more RAM and a new GPU, which is more or less very close to the price of the 360 right there. Nevermind if you are someone like myself, who still has and AGP based system. So when I choose to upgrade my system to a "gaming rig," since I need a new CPU, Ram, Motherboard, & GPU (or GPU's if I want to go SLI or Crossfire), if I want it to be more than decent, I am looking in the area of $1000+ With all of that said, I would say it is more or less common knowledge that the PC will always be at the forefront of gaming. It is just a matter of how capable your wallet is with keeping up with the forefront itself.
spenser.d
I'm in the same seat at DL. My rig is over 2 years old. It does what I want it too pretty well, and runs all the games I used to play often just fine (Halo, HL2, CSS, Doom 3), but the cost to upgrade now, and then to keep having to upgrade over the next 5 or so years that the 360 will probably be in town for far outweighs the cost of just having the 360 and not caring about PC Gaming. Also, despite the fact that MS is bringing it to PC, XBL is pretty much unmatched on the 360. Also (common theme...heh), consoles play the games with far fewer problems, since their isn't a literally infinite amount of hardware configurations that they need to work on. There's just one (two, if you count with or without the HDD). So I suppose we could ask the same question of you - Why should we upgrade our PC's when the 360 can do all the same things (and then some with things like XBLMP, etc)? -Spenser
NeoTrunks
And to add... some of us have Macs. I do most of my gaming on my 360 and my DS. I'm not holding my breath for Gears of War to be released on Macs anytime soon (even though Epic has been good about their Mac/Linux releases). InternalStorm
I'll tell you why... It's just so much more appealing to sit around a large TV and play with friends with a controller while relaxing on a couch. I can thoroughly enjoy it and spent hours at it. At a computer I have distractions, and the only good games on computer are shooters and strategy type games. On a console you have better controls and selection for racers, fighters, adventure games etc. etc. Plus, most people don't want to deal with upgrading PC hardware. Or, they just don't know HOW to. Console gaming from day 1 has been the first platform for games and the easiest and most widely adopted. There are many times more games being released for consoles than PC. If you think Gears is the only console game, think again, and just because there are some cross platform shooters, that doesn't mean that the rest of the games are on PC because there are a very limited few. Plus, since consoles can stay up to date for 5 years or more, developers can tweak to the systems specs and prolong the life of the console and thus be able to take in more money. They can also make more money selling on a console because of how many consoles there are out there, and that number grows exponentially throughout the consoles life span. Running at 720P helps too, because this is low resolution on a computer monitor, but native to an HDTV so it looks really great and can run smooth and continue to give excellent results well into the future. Captain_Wang
As stated by others; -A 360 costs a lot less than what a PC would to be able to run games at the same visuals. -Large hi-def TV' becoming mainstream means playing with friends round or family is still a fun option, something not really practical with PC's. -Comfort of a settee. -With companies like Microsoft, Nintendo, and Sony supporting the consoles you are guaranteed some form of customer service, whether that be continual game launches or exclusivity deals, PC gaming is so open platform it is both good and bad for itself. I love PC gaming and play games on my PC far more than consoles but this is a convenience thing more than anything else. I like the fact with consoles there is no .ini tweaking or driver compatibility issues to resolve. I also think the allure of mods for certain games is over hyped. I bought Oblivion for the PC (already owning the 360 version) to play around with mods and possibly play it more but it seems the mods for this game are very poor, or just plain uninteresting, so to me the mods argument isn't that powerful on the whole. Only games like Half Life 2, BF2 and Unreal Tournament seem to have a decent mod community. I find myself playing my DS the most however, simply because I can play it wherever and whenever. I don't have to dedicate a piece of my day to sitting in front of my PC or console to play a game if you catch my drift.
neoadorable
don't understand why so many people think it's bad to sit and dedicate yourself to gaming for a period of time. isn't that what being a hobbyist is all about? well, different world nowadays i guess... MightyJordan
Like GoW Is going to PC from a interview I read on GI I hate to break it to you, but GoW is NOT coming to the PC. Cliffy B said this in an interview about a month ago.

I personally just don't like feeling chained to a game in that sense, but sometimes to get completely immersed in a game or movie, I will sit at my PC to do so. Shadrack
I don't know if anyone here has it in them to compare and contrast PC's with Consoles as that has already been done in this forum and is really a dead horse that has received a sufficient beating. I like console over PC because: * Gamepad gameplay allows me to kick back on my couch and play a game rather then being hunched over a keyboard+mouse for hours. I've been playing the new WoW expansion a lot lately and my back is really feeling it. * Multiplayer on the same screen is fun with buddies, while LAN parties are hard to organize. +Mystic MVC Posted January 30, 2007 MVC Share Posted January 30, 2007 The big reason for me is my friends. Who wants to sit around a PC watching eachother take turns at a game, when you can all be playing at the same time on a console.

Nashy
I bought it one the day before lunach, and went and picked it up at midnight. Because I wanted to. No reason at all, I wanted it.
neoadorable
i crave the time i sit by myself in front the PC/360. crave it, you hear? got enough people in my life as it is. i'm sure most here feel the same just think it's the "antisocial" thing to say. mattmatik
Well, the sports games are simply...SHYTE on the PC. That's why I love consoles, and in particular my 360. All the non-sports games I've played have been great but I know I can and will always go back to football or basketball games.
ynnoj
Why? Casual gaming. Kick back, put my feet up and snuggle up in my bed whilst playing some Madden. All because of the wireless pads. Much more comfotable than being hunched up behind a desk and keyboard. And if I wanna open a can of whoop ass on Gears? Xbox Live. The best of both worlds. Good job, Microsoft.
