Microsoft Xbox 360 Memory Card 512 MB

Recommended Posts

Still a rip-off considering you can buy 4GB USB flash drives and SD cards for less than $40. Even if MS added 4GB memory to it, they'd still be making a bit of profit. And the Core system could become a much better buy.

for the people who are screaming rip off: it's a specialized device. it WILL be expensive. every single console component is sold at a higher premium. accept it or don't buy it :)

neat. finally signs that larger XBOX Live Arcade games WILL get bigger over time :D

but with nintendo you cant take your VC games to another persons nintendo to play. you have to bring your whole console.

yeah well soon everything will be too big for the old 360 memory card so it will end up having very little use.

Still doesn't stop it from being too overpriced. No other next-gen console is using proprietary memory cards anymore. The more storage MS add to their memory card, the more useful the Core system becomes. Even if they just put 2GB in there, it would be enough for a couple of maps, demos, expansions, etc. and they would still be able to make up to 100% profit.

Either that or allow USB drives to be used to save your games and XBL content.

You guys aren't considering that they use the margin on these accessories to cover the cost of the console itself. However, now that the console is pulling a small profit, I think they could reduce their margin a bit...

If I'm not mistaken, they're still in the red as a whole.

I'm just waiting for some Chinese company to make a 360 memory slot - SD card adapter

That would be good, but it's been over a year now, I don't think we'll be seeing any unless MS decides to make one.

I disagree. All you need to do is transfer your gamertag onto the card, then as long as your friend has XBL you can just download the XBLA games you own from his/her 360.

Well this isn't bad at all...

Remember when PS2 came out and the 8MB memory cards were like $35? LOL.

I still think Microsoft should just allow writing to USB mass storage devices, since they're the only company still pushing proprietary storage. That can be a selling point for the competition.

So where's that guy who was complaining about Microsoft "lying" by raising the size cap on Live Arcade games?

He was a PS3 guy just trying to rile everyone up and start a ****ing contest.

I know... it was probably the stupidest topic I've ever seen on Neowin.

I was just pointing out that it's pretty obvious, to me at least, that the timing of the raised limit and a 512MB card was intentional.

$40 - 64mb

$50 - 512mb

$100 - 20GB

:s

Good point, I wouldn't bother with a Memory Unit unless it's for backup purposes or something (and even then, there's solutions for that as well; eg XSATA).

That being said, however, I wouldn't go out and buy the 20GB HDD if you're looking for more storage. I'd wait until Microsoft releases the larger capacity HDD then compare your options.
