neoadorable
ok, it's been three months now since the love affair with the 360 started and the little b***h's volume is driving me nuts. see, being a civilized person i only ever play with headphones on, cept the rare occasion someone comes by to play. the 360 has onboard sound i guess so the volume levels are ridiculous. now, i don't have need nor space for a real amp, and fear those multimedia setups you get for thirty bucks will be as bad as what i have now. any other possible solutions? is there such a thing as a headphone amp? please advise. oh and if anyone's thinking of a 360 v2.0, please do future buyers a favor and put a small amp in there. they don't cost much, right? Defiantly
TRUST ME! get a nice amp that supports an optical in cable and a headphone jack. It's worth it. Check eBay. One can be had for the price of a 360 game. I have a full 5.1 500Watt setup and am using the optical out on my 360's HD cable. I can't descibe the difference in sound. It's amazing! At night, I plug my headphones (Studio over the ear) into my amp's headphone jack. OH MY!
giga Veteran Posted February 1, 2007 Veteran Share Posted February 1, 2007 What headphones are you using? Check the impedence and see if its not too high--unless you have a proper amp/receiver, the 360 won't be able to drive them. (as with any other regular sound card). And yeah, there are headphone amps. Check head-fi for recommendations. Or HeadRoom.
Defiantly
Good point. You need good headphones to hear good audio, regardless of the source. However, even a TV has it's own amplifier. Serioulsly, you don't know what your missing. GET AN AMP!!!
neoadorable
thx for the comments. defiantly, i know exactly what i'm missing and you're right, an amp would be best but there's nowhere for me to put it. unless there's like tiny amps for this kind of use...i don't need OTT sound, just something average. as it it, it's too weak. using regular headphones. they're otherwise real nice and comfy and sound better with the PC. i think the amperage or other ratings are industry standard for headphones of this type.. and giga, checking out headroom and headfi right now...thx for the tips. seems like these things are pricey tho! S.MULLA
i'm using logitech z680's 5.1 speakers.. and the sound is definatly amazing.! i use an optical switcher-which goes to my creative x-fi front panel and then is outputted to the amp on the sound system. before i got a 360- i thought my sound system rocked- but now its absolutely on another level .! :D
Smigit
thx for the comments. defiantly, i know exactly what i'm missing and you're right, an amp would be best but there's nowhere for me to put it. unless there's like tiny amps for this kind of use...i don't need OTT sound, just something average. as it it, it's too weak. If your happy to continue using headphones then you could consider a headphone amp. Many of those are small enough to fit in a pocket.
Shadrack
I feel your pain!! I wish there were an accessory to plug into the controller for headphones and not just the headset!
neoadorable
elite, i appreciate the input but not sure if your setup is for headphones even. my beef with MS is that they didn't think of boosting the sound levels. my headphones are 103dB which i believe should be more than enough to be driven. ergo, MS took a shortcut and/or assumed we're all inconsiderate enough to terrorize family and neighbors. smigit, i am looking at headphone amps but they're crazy expensive, no way we need to pay 150 bucks for something like that. shadrack, you on headphones too? yes, it sucks. will be getting one of them regular multimedia speaker packages today and will see if it works. trouble is, most of them don't have AV inputs any more. any other solutions that come to mind? like installing a freaking sound card in the 360... Smigit
smigit, i am looking at headphone amps but they're crazy expensive, no way we need to pay 150 bucks for something like that.Yeah I was considering one but the costs put me off. I crank the volume instead as at 2/3 the way up I get acceptable volumes from my logitech system out of the headphone port (i believe its unamplified). Normallly I sit at about 1/5 of the way up. neoadorable
thanks esco, that looks like a nice amp. can't find a price for it tho. smigit, indeed. a hundred US for one is simply too much. cheapest i found was like eighty. that's beyond what i'm willing to pay. so you're saying hooking the headphones to a logitech speaker sys didn't get you good results?
