Can't this be patched over time rendering the 360 kapoot ?

Sry I haven't looked into this yet, just quick question there.

Yeah, it'll get patched, sometime.

I'm with Sheppard though.

Figured.

If I was to go for backups. A chip with on/off switch would be the road i'd take.

Exactly! If you play games on xbox live then you are subject to updating those games to keep them working on xbox live. Never know what kind of sneaky things MS can do to you if they detect that your xbox 360 has been modified (you don't think they can detect this?).

At the same time, modified xbox 360's are able to bypass the "signed code" protections. I don't particularly want to play xbox live with people with flashed xbox 360's because there is a very large potential for cheating here.

I definitely understand the need for someone to have disc backups. I've babied some of mine and still get mysterious scratches show up out of no where that causs problems later. That happened to my Gears of War disc... luckily one of those disc scratch remover, polisher/buffer things fixed the problem with my disc. (I suspect the optical drive scratched the disc. Although I'm not sure how it could...maybe some dust in the drive? not sure..)

MS should counter this with a game disc replacement plan of sorts. Something reasonable like $9.99 to replace the media of a scratched up disc upon the return of the defective disc to MS similarly to how they will replace their software discs if the disc is defective or damaged.

9.99 for a replacement for a game that cost 59.99 dude... come on now... thats 17% of the cost for a damn game! Way to much money! i would say yes... MS should replace the game but at a lower cost... but then again

i could also see myself making money off of this.. and buying used games CHEAP! and reselling them as NEW

EBGames / GameStop have a $3 protection warranty. If anything happens (cracks, breaks in half, etc) they will replace it. It's one-time though, you'll have to pony up $3 to warranty your replacement. :p

Well, I don't set MS policy, dude. I was just throwing out a figure as an example and to create some discussion on the topic. Anyway, I think 9.99 is much cheaper then 59.99 for a replacement disc is...and that is what they want to charge you now, dude.

Best Buy does something similar but I think it costs more then $3. I don't shop at GameStop because the ones around here SUCK!

You know.. I'm all for hacking a console when it opens it to homebrew and "user-created" applications. That's why my xbox is modded and I use it all the time. I can also appreciate individuals doing it simply to play games that they usually could not due to region coding.

But, if a hack's only purpose is to utilize illegal pirated games, then I have to say you're treading on thin ice. Obviously no one is going to know you're doing it, and unless you're stupid and pathetic enough to go around selling DVD-R's of game titles you probably won't ever get in trouble for it. But on an ethical basis, you're essentially being a jerkoff. Now if you're fine being one, then go right ahead. But talking about it on Neowin? No thanks.

You can flash it back to normal again.

But the void sticker is still..voided

Sounds like too high a risk of damaging your 360 cause of constantly having to flash everytime an exploit gets patched.

Holla at me when a chip with a switch gets released, other than that, im good without it.
