Epic: 360 and PC players will go head to head in UT3

Recommended Posts

You don't understand, the 360 DOES support mouse and keyboard, any good USB ones will work fine, but Microsoft simply will not allow players to use them in games to control anything. For example, you can use them in Oblivion to type the names of spells out or whatever, but not control the character (and that's a SP only game). It's not a question of whether or not it's possible, it's just Microsoft will simply not allow it and they've said several times that they wont.

No, it supports keyboards in, basically, the Dashboard. Doesn't mean that they're saying "NO KEYBOARDS AND MICE!"

A keyboard and mouse on 360 isn't exactly convenient... how many people have somewhere to put them in front of their TV?

It's just an option. :p

Read what I said. Microsoft allows keyboards, but NOT for player control, only for text input.

And I said they only allow keyboards, and only for use in Dashboard/OS functions (like inputting text in a game). Some games support keyboards on their own for text input (like FFXI and PSO).

Still, why does that mean Microsoft is saying 360 games are limited to this? If a game developer truly sees it fit, I imagine it could try and add keyboard and mouse support into the game. Microsoft, I'm sure, would like for the developer to try and create a good control scheme for the 360 controller before resorting to a keyboard and mouse, however.

No, it's not like that. Keyboard/mouse support already exists, but microsoft DOES NOT ALLOW developers to use them for any kind of control system. Input, yes. Stuff like typing messages in MMO games (or my previous example, oblivion) is allowed, but you cannot use them for anything else, you HAVE to use the 360 controller, unless there's a very good reason not to. And by good reason, I mean special games like guitar hero.

Microsoft's reasoning on this, well one of their reasons, is because they don't want to cause a divide among Xbox live players. Look at this thread, pretty much every response has been "omg 360 players will get pwned by PC players!". That's exactly what Microsoft wants to avoid among just the live players. It will be interesting to see how they handle this, but no doubt they'll keep to their stance of "no keyboards for player control".

Shadowrun is the first PC/360 game right? Some journalist where trying it out and said that the 360 players had no problem keeping up with the PC gamers, however i dont kow how Shadowrun compares to the UT gameplay?

UT is one of those games where you kinda expect to have a advantage as a PC gamer.

But Epic didnt say they would implement it? so they are prolly trying it out to see how the ballance is.

Personally i would love a feature like this, however i hope you would be able to choose if you could play against 360s only etc and be able to view ranks for 360 only user and vice versa.
