JoHideo
I've gotten sick of Firefox's memory leaks. I feel like just because I leave the browser open for 2 days does not mean it should bloat to using 500 mb of ram. So, I'm trying out Opera now and I wanted to make it as great as I found Firefox. One thing I want to know is how can I make Opera have Adblock-like functionality with use of filter sets? That's one main concern that I can think of right now. I'm still playing around with the rest of the settings to see if I can get them right, but that was a big one for me. Thanks in advance for your help. Mike
tools->preferences, advanced tab, content section, click on blocked content, if thats what you mean edit : Post below way only works for images/flash/etc not text ads and for me seems to have to wide of a filter set but when you've clicked on the ads/imges/flash things click on details and check the filters it made then click done
Quillz
Opera has a pretty good built-in ad blocker. Just right click somewhere on a page, go to "Block Content," and then click on all the ads, images, etc. When you're done, the ads are gone. nilsHaus
While we're on the topic of Opera, I'd like to know how I can get all the taskbars on one line, similar to this IE 6 setup. Also, is it possible for it to run a separate Torrent application within the browser itself? I want to use uTorrent, but it'd be nice to have inside Opera. Emil Valsson
I'd recommend Admuncher as well, very good adblocker. :)
JoHideo
But can't I just get some kind of filter set instead of doing it all myself?
halcyoncmdr
But can't I just get some kind of filter set instead of doing it all myself? At least on my system after I chose to block a specific ad, it removed that entire ad domain. So eery other page I visited did not display the ads either. The problem with that however was that if you chose to see what was blocked on that second page, hte domain wasn't listed as being blocked, but that is filed as a bug already in their system, so it should be getting fixed soon. You could also find a posted filter.ini file on the web somewhere and simply copy it into your profile folder. While we're on the topic of Opera, I'd like to know how I can get all the taskbars on one line, similar to this IE 6 setup. You should be able to just go to View > Toolbars > Customize and then click and drag what you want on each toolbar. There are lots of possibilities for the page download status as well when you start to customize it all. Also, is it possible for it to run a separate Torrent application within the browser itself? I want to use uTorrent, but it'd be nice to have inside Opera. Within the browser not really. You can disable the built-in support and have Opera redirect the urls directly to another application. Or you might want to do that and try the utorrent WebUI that they are working on right now, that looks promising. I use the WebUI when I'm not at home. Pallab
But can't I just get some kind of filter set instead of doing it all myself? Two of them : http://www.technobeta.com/posts/opera-ads/ http://my.opera.com/Tamil/blog/index.dml/tag/urlfilter.ini The second one has less no. of entries, but uses smart filtering to block out most ads. For Opera tweaks see : http://my.opera.com/Rijk/blog/show.dml/330699 http://www.pallab.net/2006/04/12/extending...tomizing-opera/

SMELTN
I would love to start using Opera. But isn't Opera based off of IE itself and not Gecko? And if I wanted to use the IE engine then why not just use IE6-7 instead of Opera? what are the advantages?

NO though I forget the name of Opera's engine, but NO, it is much MUCH faster than IE's Trident engine. and still beats IE7 on correct rendering. Opera is really innovating over the years, the most thing I hate it is that it didn't PATENT the god damned things. They invented multi-tab browsing, mouse gesture and etc. >> go to opera.com to have a quick look of the latest features. JorgeIvan
how I can transfer my bookmarks from Firefox to Opera?
rowdypixel
In Firefox: 1. Go to Bookmarks > Organize Bookmarks 2. Go to File > Export and save the file somewhere you'll remember In Opera: 1. Go to File > Import and Export > Import Netscape/Firefox bookmarks 2. Navigate to the file you just saved and press OK. 3. Your bookmarks are now imported. :)

richstad
Is there a way to have Opera load a series of tabs at start up (as in a session) AND have the pages automatically update themselves (as FF does)? Thanks
lol911
Not sure about refreshing them automatically, richstad, but you can just press CTRL+F5, it will refresh all tabs.
halcyoncmdr
To refresh a page automatically use the options in Navigation > Reload Every > Select whjat you want and choose enable :D And Opera didn't invent tabbed browsing, but it was one of the first to support it... d3nuo
while we're on the topic, i got one thing: is there a way to make opera act like firefox with default tabs.. meaning, say in opera, i have like 13 webpages that open in the default session.. so that's fine and dandy, firefox does the same (in a smarter way, imo) but if i open the run dialog and maybe type google.com and invokes opera, i get all my default tabs, plus a new window with google loading.. i think opera sucks at that, which has ultimately kept me from using it by itself.. i've tried everything and ended up just having to close the window with all my tabs that i dont want opened, until i realized i shouldn't sacrifice for a program when there's a better one what actually works right.. any thoughts? AND (this one's for richstad): this will also auto-refresh the homepages as since they are automatically loaded new. (if not, go to settings and tell oepra to check for new site version every time you visit a website) cheers, Glassed Silver:lgc
