Defiantly
So I've had my 360 for about three weeks now and have downloaded and deleted alot of content. I'm just wondering, do the 360's HDD's ever get fragmented? If so, is there a proceedure to defragment them? Thanks!
CY:G
lol, interesting, i never thought about that, good question
what
Surely the size of the disk means that it wouldn't matter if there was fragmentation =/
Harreh
Hmm... I've never thought about this either... Does it really matter if the content gets fragmented? I don't really know what you can put on the disk and I don't have a 360, but I can't imagine it really being a huge problem if it does get fragmented and can't see it getting hugely fragmented. Defiantly
Hmmm, I disagree considering that most of the main content are smaller files in relation to the size of the disk. ...and with all these smaller files, if one day I decide to download a 7GB HD Movie, will the movie be all fragmented on the disk and play like cr@p. nistromo
Found this about the Xbox 1 "As For MS they beat this [PS2 Hard drive] utility by making the HDD auto defrag. The HDD has a built in set of instructions that automaticall organize all files so that Defragging is not necessary. Here is the techies post I borrowed: It is form of NTFS, and it auto-defragging. On the Xbox, there's no worry, because it takes care of the issue dynamically. On the PS2, however, users will have to manually defrag their drives from time to time to optomize the performance." http://www.xboxaddict.com/forums/showthread.php?t=26975

+StevoFC MVC Posted February 12, 2007 MVC Share Posted February 12, 2007 I'm gonna say no, cause i've never heard of it happening before. If you're retarded enough to play american football with your harddrive, then maybe. wow...do you even know what fragmentation is? Cuttz
No, i didn't. I thought I had an idea, then realised my dumbass was wrong, then changed it, then edited my post. does that satisfy you stevofc?
ynnoj
Amazing what reading the topic can do. ;) Excuse me? He asked if there was a procedure that allowed him to defrag the 360 HDD. In response to his request, I provided him with a link explaining how to do this. I read the thread, did you?

+StevoFC MVC Posted February 12, 2007 MVC Share Posted February 12, 2007 Excuse me? He asked if there was a procedure that allowed him to defrag the 360 HDD. In response to his request, I provided him with a link explaining how to do this. I read the thread, did you? what you linked to doesn't say how to defrag anything. It just deletes it all which is far from what he is asking to do. It won't do anything for the files that stay on the HD such as game demos, videos, music and anything else he has on there. Corris Veteran Posted February 12, 2007 Veteran Share Posted February 12, 2007 Excuse me? He asked if there was a procedure that allowed him to defrag the 360 HDD. In response to his request, I provided him with a link explaining how to do this. I read the thread, did you? As stated in your link, that's clearing the cache, which delete updates and so forth, that is not defragging the harddrive.

neoadorable
Lots of ###### waving in this thread so soon! LOL yeah, this was fast even for internet forums. straight outta eurotrip, i say. but the orignal topic was interesting...just goes to show how much of a PC the 360 is. of course it gets fragmented, and size doesn't matter. we used to defrag HDD's when they were in the MB range. Defiantly
Sorry to start a ****ing match everyone. Ahh screw it. My 360 will probably fry before the HDD become fragmented anyway. Thanks to all who had constructive input.
magik
Now... why doesn't Microsoft provide this auto-defrag feature in their OS? :p
