bayrider
About a week ago all these ads i've never seen before on sites I frequent started popping up that ad block plus normally blocked. I'm not talking about pop-ups per se, but I mean those flashy and annoying banners that were non existant before which are now appearing. And yes, I am getting some pop-ups and flash/java ads every now and then when I normally wouldnt. Did something happen with ADP? Was there an update or something, or did I do something wrong? Quite frankly, i havent changed anything with FF other than installing downloadthemall, which is when this started to happen. It's not virus or anything, I'm sure. I'm looking now, and I noticed my "filter rules" are empty. Shouldn't there be some rules? I reinstalled it and the rules section was still empty. dtanderson
I have not noticed any changes. What sites are you getting the ads on? The only sites that I get ads on are the ones the have set to allow ads on.
TurboTuna
Most ad companys are wise to adblockers and will use nonstandard urls, maybe thats what your experencing? Personally i'd just block the add and move on...
Yochanan
What filter list are you using? I'm using EasyList + EasyElement. I rarely come across ads it misses. If it does, you can always manually block it. So many people block ads these days that advertisers try to find ways around them. It's a constant battle. Try the Element Hiding Helper to block text ads.
primexx
download filterset P and update it yourself over time to best match your own preferences. Oh and NoScript removes most of the illegitimate ads (The ones that try to deceive you and what not).
bayrider
Thanks for the help guys. For some reason, my filters were wiped clean. I guess that was the problem. Anyone know how this could happen?
P.M.K
Thanks for the help guys. For some reason, my filters were wiped clean. I guess that was the problem. Anyone know how this could happen? The only way I thought could have happened is if you have uninstalled it.
conan_2000
I'm using the standard version of Adblock with the Adblock Filterset.G Updater, no problems with that, I've always wandered what Adblock plus did differently, but then I always realise this seems to work so why go messing around and changing. CoolCatBad
I find it more manageable to use the generic ad_blocking.css file from gozer.org, and then install Adblock Plus but without any filter subscription. Just right-click the ABP icon and edit annoying elements as I find them.
