Converting videos to .wmv files

Recommended Posts

I'm using a video converting program called Xilisoft and trying to convert videos on my computers to .wmv files to be able to play (networked) on my xbox360. Everytime I convert one, the outputed file never seems to work. Is it the program or is there something else hidden, that I could be screwing up.

Thanks guys, just got home from my game, and now tomorrow I will be able to try a couple of these. I'll post back on how it goes.

mk1990: When you said mpeg4 are you talking about non-360 stuff, because I thought the 360 only does .wmv

Make sure you try TVersity as someone has already recommended.

TVersity is awesome. For some odd reason though, when converting new videos, the only way to get them to play is by converting them to the Video-CD (mpg) format, not the .wmv. Whenever I tried converting the files to .wmv they never worked. I thought the 360 only supported .wmv video sharing?

Why are you converting the videos? Just set TVersity up for 360 use, add the videos to your library and then play them from your Xbox. They will be converted to .wmv on the fly.

Sorry being new with the program, haven't worked everything out yet. I will go back to the site and try the 360 guide again. Currently, I just added videos to my library, and that was it.

I will finally be able to re-try TVersity and other programs, but I really like the way TVersity sync's everything.

ynnoj: Most likely, I will send you another private message today or tomorrow if I don't get TVersity working for some odd reason.

Sure, I'll try and help you set it up :)

You gotta remember, on "slower" PC's - It can take up to a few minutes for the stream to start on the Xbox

Not sure that should be too much of an issue as our family just got the streaming computer in December (it has pretty decent specs.).

With TVersity set on Xbox360 and to transcode on "Always", I still get "codec not supported on the 360". I am going to start trying some different suggestions made by people to see if that helps.

That's an encoder - Means you gotta encode THEN play it.

ffdshow installs and decode On-the-fly. So you can start up you DivX - Xvid files etc. and it will just decode it while it plays.

I did install ffdshow, but so does this work with TVersity to help decode? I really would like to use TVersity because everywhere I check, it always is the favorite.

Sorry just really confused at the moment with what could be going wrong, as I usually never de-code, encode, or do much video editing.
