MPH
I'm looking for good 5.1 speakers for Xbox 360. Can you recommend me one? What type of connection Xbox 360 uses for speakers? (RCA, digital, ...)

User6060
Good speakers, are made by speaker companies that usually only make sound equipment. How much are you willing to spend? And do you have a Home Theater Receiver?
MPH
I don't have a Home Theatre Receiver. I'm planning to use Xbox 360 on my LCD, which has dual connections (DVI and VGA). I need speakers with optical or digital connection for Xbox 360, right? Logitech Z5500 look sweet. :)
Pc_Madness
The Logitech Z5500's are insane. How well they go with a 360 though I'm not sure.
goji
Figure how much you want to spend: 100, 500, 1000, 2000 + and then look at your options. You have PC Multimedia packages to cheap HTiB to actual sound systems you can put together.
DrCheese
The Logitech Z5500's are insane. How well they go with a 360 though I'm not sure. They work perfectly with the 360, The 360's output cable has an optical connection on that you can connect to the Z5500's. I have them setup around my room and use them for both pc and 360, all I have to do is switch inputs depending on what I want to hear sound from. Mr_Edwardo
Another vote for the Z-5500, well worth the money, and damn they blow you away. Literally. And anything else that isn't tied down.
lothodon
yup, another set of 5500's here! so what's wrong with the 5500's then? since logitech doesn't ONLY make speakers.

There's nothing "wrong" with them, its like comparing a Honda to a Cadillac to a Rolls Royce...they all move from point A - B, but theres a difference. If you really want to know, the mid-ranges of most computer speakers are lacking and muddy, the bass modules are overpowering and too 'boomy', the tweeters are small and cheap quality and they give the sound an artificial quality. But in the real world spending ~$100-200 for speakers that sound 'good' and spending $1500++ on Good speakers and an Amp is the Real difference. They are the exception. The Highs and Mids are near perfection, and the bass blends in perfectly with the music and etc. What it comes down too is your price range. Are you really willing to pay 1500 for marginally better speakers? Unless you're a hardcore audiophile it's not worth the extra hard-earned cash. goji
^ I LOL at that post. Near perfect highs and mids are unattainable at the price point the Logitechs cater to. In all honesty the 5500 are nothing to really brag about, they are good, but as Co_C0 stated, plagued with boomy bass, not true low hard hitting bass; no highs since they lack a tweeter and overall a dull sound stage with more emphasis on "how loud can it go" mentality vs audio reproduction. That my friend is the pay off when shelling out more cash; its not about quantity of sound but the quality. I agree, if thats all you can afford, and you have to have a 5.1 system go for it. I would rather suggest you start off in stereo with a receiver and better satellites or floorstanding speakers and build up to a quality sound system rather than force yourself into a corner with no upgrade options at all. And its not about being hardcore. Hardcore audiophiles drop 50K + a year switching out amps alone to hear subtle acoustical differences; thats overkill. Now being able to appreciate the sound as the artist intended, thats magical.
Noveed
what about the Creative Gigaworks S750 ... coupled with decoder?
goji
IMO a much sounder decision for two big reasons. 1. The Gigaworks are produced not by Creative but by Cambridge Soundworks, an actual speaker company whose spiritual roots go back for decades. 2. Unlike the Logitechs, the Giga's don't ship with a decoder with the system. Now for some they would see this as a big disservice, however this is further from the truth. In order for speaker companies to provide multiple decoding abilities (PLII, PLIIX, DTS etc) they have to pay huge royalty fees. By not including a decoder at that price point, Cambridge was able to spend more money on R&D for a better speaker system instead of providing the decoder with the package. Yes it will be more costly when adding a decoder to the system yet sound wise you will be in a league above the Logitechs whose goal was to create an instant (simple) gratification package. Its all about price point, and what your willing to spend and any compromises your willing to make. As evident, there is a big compromise between the Gigaworks and the Logitechs. Spend your cash where you feel you need to.

MightyJordan
If you or anyone here is looking for a good cheap set of 5.1 speakers, you can't go wrong with the Logitech X-530 speakers. They cost me ?65 over a year ago, and they're probably cheaper now. It doesn't have an optical connection, but they're still amazing. It comes with a game splitter, so you put the audio connectors from the 360 in to the speakers, and hey presto! You've got some of the best sound you can get from a set that isn't even optical. ynnoj
I just dug out some old Cambridge Soundworks 5.1 speakers I once used with my PC. Couple of adaptors and jacks from Maplin, and it sounds great :D
