Some Pages Won't Load in Firefox

Recommended Posts

Some pages (like livejournal.com) just refuses to load in firefox. It gets stuck in a "loading state". The pages work in IE though. Clearing the cache and creating a new user profile does not work either. Are there any settings that I could have tweaked in Firefox to have caused this problem?

Not sure what problem you are having. The main page loaded fine for me.

LJ does not appear to be based on any IE-specific MS software that I could see. Did it fail to load on the main page or an actual journal page?

Can anyone reproduce this failure?

I also have this problem. Noticed it with eBay but having checked LiveJournal upon reading this thread, that too is not working.

Have also tried in Firefox's safe mode to no avail.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Do you use Vista by any chance? If so there is a problem with Vista's new networking stuff (don't know the technical terms) that causes some sites to not load at all. They are working to fix this in the upcoming release. There is a work around, but it's VERY technical. Let me know and I'll point you to the info I don't have it off hand and I'm about to walk out the door. I'll check back.

Tried everything on this page & LiveJournal now loads after a short delay. Sadly I didn't try after trying each thing so not sure which it was that made the difference!

eBay, however, still doesn't load. Really annoying me as eBay.com loads perfectly fine but eBay.co.uk just hangs for ages then gives Firefox's 404. Even when I load it in IE, whenever I try to load a second page (within eBay) it just hangs again, regardless of what pages I try to load.

Also, I'm on XP. Not Vista.

I have been scouring the net for the better part of a day and you're the first person I've found who know anything about that Vista network thing. If you could point me to the info for the workaround I'd really really appreciate it. I've found that I'm actually liking Vista, but I'm only getting 20 - 30 % of the pages opening that I try and it's pretty frustrating so I'm just about ready to try anything.

What I was referring to at the time was the problem with IPv6 which I'm pretty sure has been fixed now. What version of Firefox are you using? If you are using 2.0.0.6 then this isn't your problem anymore. But this link that Cryton posted has the info in it. It has instructions down at the bottom on how to disable IPv6 in Vista. I would not recommend you do it now though because Firefox has fixed this issue.

Have you tried Opera or other browsers to see if it's something with your ISP or Firewall. Is it random? Or the same sites over and over? That link will help you if you read through it carefully. Link. That's the same link Cryton gave above.

Also note, when I was having this issue (before I found this fix) it wasn't but a site here and there. Not the large number of sites you seem to be having trouble with.
