HDMI Xbox 360 Resurfaces

Recommended Posts

You can?t keep a good rumor down. Just weeks after Microsoft stamped down talk that an HDMI-enabled Xbox 360, codenamed Zephyr, was in the works, the rumors are back. Retailers have confirmed that the new SKU is in their systems, set for a May 1 release for $479.99. In addition to the new video interface, the system would also pack a 120 GB hard drive into its nifty black exterior. Microsoft won?t officially confirm that such a configuration exists, but it?s interesting that so many retailers are wrong in the same way?

As always, we'll keep you posted.

I hope it ISN'T True. I just bought my 360 in January. Would be really P'd off if a new version is released with more capabilities...

I DO HOPE, that these new capabilities will be available for current 360 owners. At least the bigger HDD.

IPTV will be available to the current XBox360, and it would be stupid not to allow a bigger hard drive for the current Xbox360's.

The only difference would be the HDMI port.

i will also be ****ed if it happens, just bought mine last month, think ill be taking it back if the new ones come out ;)

You have no right to take it back. You don't deserve a trade in if you bought it now and it comes out five months later. What's the big deal. All of you get upset when Microsoft tries to make their product better.

This (bigger HDD) is one of the reasons I am holding back my 360 purchase. :D

1. silent ODD

2. 65nm processor

3. bigger HDD

or may be a good price drop on current system.

it's great that microsoft is trying to make their product better. however, it is a little unfair that early adopters aren't going to get the same features that future 360 buyers will get. if i knew that they were gonna do this back in december, i would've waited to buy my 360. oh well, my loss i guess. i just hope they come out with an adapter or something so i can use hdmi, and a bigger hdd would be nice.

And what features are they going to miss out? HDMI? You knew when you bought the console it wouldn't come with HDMI, so why complain?

they should come out with a pink xbox 360 while they're at it. try to attract the girl gamers lol. after seeing how fast that pink nintendo ds flys off the shelves, maybe a pink 360 will have the same effect.

Before the rumors of the new 360 came around, MS had been saying that the current 360s were capable of outputting a digital video signal and would come out with an HDMI cable "when enough people want it". So some people did buy a 360 expecting an HDMI cable to be released eventually. Of course, this is still just a rumor and even if a new 360 is released, there's (hopefully) still a chance for an HDMI cable to be released for current owners.

Edit: LOL @ Disposable_hero

It seems Makro in the UK are selling premium 360's for core prices, http://www.theinquirer.net/default.aspx?article=37711

This brings the question, are they trying to get rid of old stock, to make room for a new version?

I believe only 2-3 million 360s will be shipped in the 1st half of the year, so that could be the case. That, or Microsoft realizes that they need to cut prices to compete in Sonyland.

, but the 360 is already a lot cheaper than the PS3 (over ?100 cheaper), so I can't see why MS would need to cut prices.

On the other hand, they could cut the prices of the premium, and add a platinum 360, which would have HDMI etc, which could retail for less than the PS3, and yet MS still be able to boast about HDMI and a big HDD etc.

I'm curious how HDMI will look on the 360 compared to VGA.

And I'm also wondering if they've figured out some type of HDMI solution for older consoles. The biggest issue though would be HDCP, and how to implement that into the console. That's the big issue, not whether or not the console can do a digital signal.
